Total NOOB question
I was looking to get a larger 4 gal tank and they list the Tucker Rocky catalogs list
model 239092 as for the XR400 in Red
model 239263 as for the XR400R in Natural

are these the identical tanks in different colors?
or is there such thing as a XR 400 non-R

Thank-you in advance for your response
and If this is not a good tank to get please let me know
I have also seen an Aceribs and a Clark tank is made for this bike any one better I am looking to be able to get 150-200 mile range
don't ask me why

There's no difference, sometimes places put an R on the end, sometimes they don't. It's all the same bike.

I see you don't have a p/n for a white but just to let you know they are avalible. Not sure about the natural but the white stains like crazy and I don't know of any way to remove them. My tank looks like a piss yellow volcano.:lame:
As for milage, what kind of riding are you talking about?

I've got a white 4gal IMS on my xr4 range around 175 in higher geared riding. easy install with the IMS it uses all your stock parts. A stock xr4 would get a bit more miles mines a 440 cam exhaust ect. Good Luck

I run a black Acerbis tank on mine and i think it's a 3.8 gallon capacity. My dad has gone almost 200 miles on one tank with it.. I've never had a complaint and personally I think it looks better than the Clark..its more narrow..

Hey Steve,
I have the 4 gal IMS natural tank for my 02 XR400.

Likes.....
Fit and easy installation
Not to wide....Don't even notice the size when riding (Unless it is full....28 lbs of fuel)
Natural color......Quick look to see how much gas you have left

Dislikes
Natural color.......Have to drain the fuel after each ride to slow down the yellowing process
Gas cap and gasket......Order a replacement gasket and keep it in your tool box

Edit::::
Also give the Thumpertalk store a call and check the price before your order it from TR

I've had my red IMS 4gal. for several years now. It is a good tank. It's great going on 100+ mile trail ridies not having to worry about gas.

In the 80's, when bikes were switching from twin rear shock to mono-shocks the R at the end meant the single shock frame design. Thus XR250R started the year it went single shock and the XR250 was the old twin shock model. You're right about the 400 as they never made a twin shock 400.

I've got an IMS 4 gal on my bike and have a safe range of about 150 miles. Thats with a 435cc, 10.5 comp.and ported head. I'ts nice to not have to worrie about gas. When you get your tank, order a new "o" ring for the petcock. They are almost always old and will leak when you switch to a new tank. I bought all new parts (petcock and mounting brackets) for the 4 gal. tank, so I can quickly switch back to the stock tank when needed.

I have an IMS one if anyone is interested. It is "almost" new. I mounted it used it once and then kept it as a spare in case I needed it for a long distance ride. But my buddies all got new bikes with smaller tanks than my XR so I never used it again. Has the mounting hardware, the cap and the petcock all mounted. It is the white one in the link below. If you are interested, PM me. They are like $225 without the hardware. I would sell it for about half that (+ shipping).http://www.krjohnson...s/xr400tank.htm

Note, I would include the mounting hardware and petcock (worth $50+ ?). I liked the idea of being able to swap it back and forth in just a few minutes. Just never did it.
