Wrong crankshaft sprocket?

I got a new chain and sprocket set for my 96 XR250R. After I took the old crankshaft sprocket off I started to fit the new one on and noticed a big difference.

The new one has a different type of locking mechanism to keep the sprocket from coming off the shaft. It's not the 'winged washer' (manual says 'fixing plate') like the stock one, so I decided that I would re-use the stocker. When I tried fitting everything up I see that 1) the holes on the stock fixing plate don't match my new sprocket, and 2) the sprocket inner diameter is a bit too big for the shaft and the sprocket spins freely.

My first reaction is that I got the wrong sprocket shipped to me. But it could be that I'm a bit slow and I'm missing something. Any thoughts?

Thanks

I've never seen an aftermarket CS sprocket for this bike that comes with a plate. What brand of sprocket is it? Have you checked the manufacturers charts to confirm the number?

What you're describing doesn't sound good.

No, it's not good at all. In fact I found out that it was for an XR600 and not the part that I ordered. It looks like a couple other parts got mixed up as well.

The upside is that the retailer is making good on it and sending the right parts ASAP. When I talked to them over the phone it sounded like this happens often. Dang interwebs.

Problem solved.
