As some of you might know, i am no longer an owner of a kawi. I traded it in for a 08 ktm450sxf and couldn't be happier. But, my friend just bought a 2008 kx450f and it blew up during our moto. Took it apart and one of the bolts that holds the cam sprocket to the core fell out and knocked the timing chain off the cams. Just thought i would let you guys know and for those of you who have an 08, to check that bolt.

DAMN, that really has to suck. How many rides had he done with the bike before it blew? Did he clean the air filter and change the oil regularly? Or did this happen on the first ride?

Well his lucky he was on a kawasaki then wasnt he! as kawasaki have an excellent track record for fixing things if they bugger up. Dont know about ktm though! they should send out coupens for weekly chiropracter treatment for shocking suspension!

Your saying a bolt that holds the cam sprocket to the core. Would you mean the sprocket to the cam maybe? And it Blew up Huh? Like Boom?

My buddy and his kid have blown up 3 07 KTM 450SX motors. Neither rides high in the rpm range and both are great at maintenance.

Cracked piston in one case, broken rod in one (what a mess), and undetermined in the 3rd case. All within a 2 month period.

The rod letting go was up the face of a 3rd gear jump, endo'd and tore up the shoulder really bad.

Scares me.

You guys need to chill out. No one is disrespecting kawi. My kawi was amazing. And dont be childesh and start talking crap about ktm. The ktm's motor easily out pulls the kawi and the suspsension is acutally really good. They are both great bikes and i was just informing you of what happened. The bolt fell out and got stuck on the cam chain. Thats all i know. It had 4.2 hours on it with great maintenence. Oh, and im positive kawi will back them on this, they are a great company. And brooko, seems like you don't have a clue about ktm's, so don't run your mouth.

For the record, I like the KTM, and have ridden one quite a bit these days....oh, and it does not out pull my 08 KXF btw. Love the fit and finish, orange is also my fav color.

I was simply sharing the facts on the KTM motors for 07 that I have personally seen. I only bring it up as I was thinking of having a second bike in the garage and was looking at the KTM. But these motor issues I witnessed and the fact I do not know a KTM suspension master, made me rethink.

perhaps in 09 of beyond when they go linkage.

Though I am a fan of the KXFs and have always like Kawi, in the last 6 years I have been on Yamaha and Honda until going Kawi.

To much brand loyalty boarders on fanatic and we all know that is irrational.

Mackeymx, you just need to remember when you come on the kawi board and state an issue with the bike, then turn around and say you are on another brand is kinda like sticking your tongue out and saying "nahna nahna" to us on the kawi side.

The natural reaction is to be defensive of the brand we are on. It would be the same reaction if we did this to another board like KTM.

My buddy, a long time KTM rider just made a switch to Suzuki. Just couldn't get parts when he needed (3 clutches in one year) and struggled with its turning. BUT! really enjoyed the power delivery, fit and finish and electric start! (He always hole shotted our dead start races!)

He stated he would never own another KTM, just because it is so hard, shall I restate that, takes so long to get parts.

I do hope it works out great for you with many wins your way....good luck.

I know i may sound brand biased in my previous posts, but I didn't mean to give that impression. I loved my kawi to death, and was just sharing my experience i had over the weekend so other 08 owners can possibly check for this. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

All's good. I know you had good intent, just the approach is all.

Got an update. They brought the bike the Dutchess recreational vehicles in Poughkeepsie NY. Kawasaki warrantied a whole new top end. The bolt that holds the auto decomp to the cam sprocket came out. The bolt looked like it didnt have any loc tite on it, while the other bolt holding on the auto decomp did. Kawasaki really does stand behind there bikes. Oh, and brooko, just ride an 08 450sxf, i guarantee you'll fall in love.

Reed is a whiner though!

and it looks like if he would have raced the outdoors he could have had a title. Now he is just off his game AND a whiner.

As to rep'ing his country, that was over the top.

I'll have to check my bolts and make sure they're still there. I removed the ignition cover on my 08 to clean the oil screen with about 2 hours on the bike and found that the cam chain guide was completely tweaked. Kawasaki had no idea what would have caused it, but did replace the $3 chain guide. Maybe that screw is running around in my engine somewhere......:excuseme: :excuseme:

was that a soap opera or what......every new bike can break, they all have similar brandnew issues of leaking fluids from forks, shocks or dampners. A percentage of all of them have suspension issues before even the first ride on them, and performance wise they are all close for 08.....and I don't own either.....:excuseme:
