Hi guys,

I've finally decided to get an aftermarket exhaust. I am tired of the loss of power because of the stock exhaust's small opening and am also tired of the loudness from the Unbaffled stock exhaust. I have the following: 99 XR250R with full Gordon Mods, 280cc kit, Mikuni TM34mm carb, HotCam stage 1, ground headers and matched ports. The bike is a great little Tiger in the woods.

What I am looking for is an exhaust that will flow the MOST without making too much noise. Also, this winter I will most likely make it a 320cc engine. I have been searching Hi and Low and have not found my answer yet, hence the reason for this post. I am not so worried about price but more with maximum FLOW and around 96-99db sound level.

Xrsonly.com has a stainless pipe that is sold as a "performance minded racers throughout the world" and is $279. TT has the Big Gun Evo that is $319. FMF has the Q series around $350. Thumper-Racing.net might have something but I have not seen it. May have to call them.

What are my options and I would like to know what others with similar setups are running for exhaust.

Thanx,

If you can find a white brothers e-series pro-meg, they work quite well - I found one on e-bay. White Brothers is no longer producing or selling this pipe. Otherwise, just buy a baja designs baffle and "be happy". Most aftermarket pipes actually produce less power than the stock pipe with the baffle removed or with a baja baffle.

The e-series is loud - but a quiet baffle is available.

my procircuit t-4 sounds good and isnt any louder, probably a little quieter than my unbaffled stock exhaust. its really quiet at idle but decently loud when you crack the throttle,i noticed a good power increase over the stock unbaffled.

if the big gun evo comes with the header id say try that out,if there are good reviews on it. i was gonna buy a used one on ebay to test against my t-4 but it went too high.

Supertrapp is also a pretty good choice. I really like the disc type exhaust systems because of their tunability. It doesn't take much to add/remove discs depending on the situation.

That said, the WB E-series pro meg is pretty good, but loud.

I second the t-4, I bought the quite tip for mine and its not loud at all, but has a great sound

Thanx for all the replies guys!! Have any of you ever gone the 320cc route? That is my main concern. I wonder if getting something for the XR400 might flow more for the 320cc piston kit?

Hi D1k,
I used a FMF Megamax II.
It has a disc type system (like the Supertrapp).
The FMF has also a Quit Core included.
Without the Q-Core it sounds like a big fat 4stroke. :D
Well, really a nice exhaust.

Otherwise, I also figured out that also the stock exhaust works well. Removing the whole baffle didn´t work good. (too much noise and bottem end lost)
Still modify the baffle insert a little bit for more flow; doing this will not make much noise and works fine.
(i also use a 280cm kit)

Peter
