So I was cleaning my bike after a ride and I went to go check my rear disc to make sure I had gotten all of the curd off of it and my rear disc guard was gone! The bad part was it took one of the tabs from the swing arm with it! Now what? I've seen the XR's Only Disc guard that replaces the caliper bracket but it is $100 more than the cheaper two bolt guards that I lost. Are there any other options?

What you think of mine that i made?
Check the pic in 'show us your xr's'
It's made out of 2 bits of 6mm plate, the piece in front you could probably skip if you like and just go ala sharkfin.
You will have to get a new tab welded onto your swingarm no matter what way you go[unless you go with the xr's only] but i don't see any problems there if you take it to a guy that knows his stuff.

I'd go with the Scott's or the XR's only bracket protector. More money than a stocker but then you don't need to weld on another tab. I did the same thing to mine and went with the Scott's. I sold my old caliper bracket to recoup some of the money.

I agree on the Scott's or XR's Only guard. They are a piece of art and are so beefy you never have to worry about the rear disc again. There is a reason yours is gone and the bracket broke off--the design is not strong enough when you mount a piece of aluminum where the plastic guard used to be. I installed a Baja Designs shark fin to the stock tabs. While the fin was excellent, the tabs flexed like crazy! I took it off without even using it.

After the tabs for my shark fin broke off, I was like you, looking for options. I figured I could have the tabs rewelded back on the swingarm, but finding someone I would trust to not mess up my swingarm was a concern. And I figured if I'm seeing terrain that is hard enough on the shark fin to bust the tabs, it's susceptible to happening again. I decided to spend the bucks on the XRs Only unit that replaces the caliper mount. It's a much more heavy duty unit and much less failure prone than a simple shark fin and it's 2 "weak link" tabs on the swingarm.

Good points there.
i briefly thought while i was making the protector that those tabs did look flimsy but i guess i forgot about them since then.
6mm plate protector onto 2mm tabs, it doesn't add up does it?

First off, you have to remember what was mounted to and what those tabs were originally designed for in the first place. A plastic guard that was designed for minimal protection, so the tab mounting was designed the same, not for mounting a ridged aluminum fin to that doesn't give when it takes a blow.

I noticed while cleaning my bike that one of my tabs had cracked but not yet broken so I had it welded back on.They did a great job and even made the other one better as well.So I still run the shark fin for the moment but if it happens again I will look in to the XRs only or Scotts for sure.

mmmm, I emailed Scotts. The XR250R 90-95 Shark Fin doesn't fit the L. I'll try the XR's Only.
