Head scratching is usually not good for me....usually costs me money.....the old...go broke saving money syndrome!

"econ" X440S vs 440E
taking the "E as the base....$7495.00
Take off the juice clutch: 250. . . . 7295
Revalved/Enduro suspension...requires revalve of the MX version....300. . . .6945
Larger Stator or simply the Wiring capability: use CR500 costs....300 (but low I am sure) 6645...
Skid plate.....90.. . . . 6555
Acerbis Rally hand guards....75. . . . 6480
18 Rear Wheel.....250 with spokes and lacing if you know someone.....6230
Head Light: Acerbis: 80. . . . .6150
Tail Light 40. . . . .6110
3 gallon tank....200?. . . . .5910

now lets talk: New improved Frame, motor updates, exhaust, silencer/spark arrestor.....Non-Restrictive MSO.....hmmm

but wait....we are already below the MSRP of the X440s.....

Damn sometimes I hate being an Engineer.....I get into this analysis crap and it ALWAYS costs me $$$$$

Think?

or look at it from a different perspective:

1) Ohlins forks and shock - $3000 or so

2) Talon hubs, DID wheels with Pirelli tires - $1000+

3) Optimum Power GP Control EFI system - gotta be $500+ (the one for the 426 was $1200)

so, $4500 and that is just suspension, rolling wheels and the EFI. 5495 - 4500 leaves you 995 for the frame, swing arm, steering head, air box, tank, levers, bar, cables, plastic, battery, seat and the MOTOR!

basically you could buy one, part it out and get your money back if not make some! think about that!!!

PBR:.....
I am trying to get smart on this as well.....
It just depends on what you are going to be doing with it. Off road/scrambles and enduro or moto....although from the praises here from the owners...sounds like the X/S can do it all....I just need the "open" MSO, and it doesnt have it.

I listed a few things that are different above that I know that I would do to the X/S in order to be a "C", but it still wouldnt be street 'legal' capable. (I do this cause I am an Alaskan resident, active military stationed in Washington state....Federal Law allows me to plate it in AK, and not pay the 8+% sales tax, plus off road fees etc.....no sales tax in AK, as long as I register and license it there....no problem, its my home state.)

If you take this link:

Some of the differences link posted earlier

It lays out differences as well.
Me, I want an off road do it all, license plate capable machine. Either the C or the E. Gonna run full lights anyhow...= "E" that I am looking at.
The entry level X/S has the MSO restriction, other wise I would be looking hard at it....real hard. But that difference alone is $500 in sales tax here for me. :)

So.....between that post and the other real smart 'Dale folks here in Thumpertalk (I am just trying to get informed.....long way from 'Dale smart! :D )
