Hey all midwesterners,

So here is a narrative of my first time on a track, I know it is probably boring for most of you but for me it has been something I have been waiting for many years and very exciting.
I got my bike two months ago, a yz400f, I just love it. On thrusday I didn't have to work so I decided to head down to highly recommended BR. I got there at noon, I was the only one, which was nice. So I find my way there after signing in, park my truck (I found out later that there was a better parking area closer to the track, I just parked in the area between the sand and clay track right when you turn off the gravel road). So I get all set up and such, and from where I am some of the jumps are pretty intimadating... ( the big first set up that I could see). I got on the track at 1, still nobody there, so no pressure to go around the track for some recon at snail pace. I went around the track, and I loved it more and more, awesome jumps, nice lines, etc.. One thing that I was not used to was the slippery clay (it was dry that day). I was used to riding on grass mostly so it was a big change in traction etc... After my initial loop I started hitting it harder, it was awesome to finally be on "the track", something that I have been waiting for 20 years (I know I could of done it earlier). I had some difficulties slowing down and stopping on this new surface so I went into the weeds and mud puddles a lot after overshooting the turns haha, I was the only dirty one there that day, haha. I only wiped out twice, once in a turn, just layed it down, and the other also in a turn, before the little step down before the first big step up, I highsided it nicely, totaly youtube worthy haha. This all was exhausting tho! I didn't hit the big tabletops too much cause I just ended up on the flat top and it hurst after a while, I need to get my nuts together so I can clear these suckers! The parts I had a hard time with was the off camber turn before the tabletop line, and the set ups... I am still pretty shy with those, but whatever.
Anyways, I had a blast. Had some lows points where I did not enjoy myself and some high ones when I got my nuts together and went throught that little rythm section, which was an awesome accomplishement for me. The sand track was closed due to the large amount of water, that thing looks like fun tho.
Sorry for the long write up but I just wanted to share my excitment! I can't wait to go there again and meet some TTers. Unfortunetly I will be out of town until Wed cause of the job (pilot), but hoping to go there maybe Thursday? Friday? Saturday?

Have a good one

Arno

The crowd never really botrhers me at all....I would say it is pretty average as far as crowds go. Don't let it bother you! :busted:

I was thinking of taking my kid (12) to Buffalo Range this weekend on his XR80. Is the track too rough for his age and his bike?

Not at all, just make sure you go out there with him at first and teach him to hold his lines.

Just an FYI.The clay track really thins down in the late afternoon.I see a lot of kids that age ride the intermediate track early and come on the clay track as the crowds file out.
