We need an interesting thread to keep us entertained at work. If you have the time...tell us a little about yourself.

I'm 33, live in Hanover Park, sell cnc equipment for a living and have been riding off and on since i was 12 years old. I have 2 sons (3 and 8). The 8 year old is racing in the 50cc class and doing well. I've had a passion for mx since a young age and it has become a part of my daily routine. I've met tons of cool people and lifelong friends through this sport and I'm constantly trying to get my non mx buddies involved.

This thread is kind of gay and cheesy but...it should be entertaining.

I started racing at 18 in 1979,, raced off and on for many years, always wanted to be fast, never quite got there, finished 6th in district 17 +30 1982, Won the "Vintage" (non-current) class at Lake Geneva Raceway in 2001, retired in 2003, was going to un-retire in 2005 until a car accident put my racing life away for good. I really wanted to race the last season at Lake Geneva but it was not meant to be.

I never went to band camp and I did Not play the flute.

yes, this is the start of another geigh thread.

I'm 25, started riding when I was 11 on an XR100. Rode mainly trails up until I was about 15 and then started riding and racing MX. From age 16-20 I pretty much lived at BR. Started working at Riders Choice Racing when I graduated high school and worked there for 2 years until I went away to NIU. While at NIU, I worked at Tuf Racing until I graduated. Now I'm working at a newspaper ad placement agency in Downers Grove, a couple blocks from DGY. I get to play around with maps and demographics and those sorts of things and then I recommned where my clients should advertise. Kind of interesting, but doesn't pay the best. As many of you know, my brother also rides and is pretty much always with me if I'm on the bike. This sport is beyond a hobby for me. I've met a lot of great people and seen a lot of really cool things because of it and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Ok here it goes. my name is Zeno, I don't have a middle initial, but for 08 I might change it to Zeno XVII (Magnus) so I can get a new AMA card and dominate the C class. I moved to Arlington Heights when I was 18 and been a proud memeber of D-17 since I was 19. Before that I lived in Italy where I started riding at 14 and racing at 16-17. Previous bikes include a custom spray painted fluoressent orange malaguti 50 with fake snow accents (early 80's) and a pink 94 tm 80 big wheels. Some bad ass bikes that I'm sure you all wish you had. Nowadays I do some cable work as a subcontractor, and buy pretty bikes to compensate for my lack of speed. My goal in life is to race LL some day. Oh, and If I had a million dollars I would do two chicks at the same time.

yeah this thread a little gay but kind of neat as well to learn more about fellow riders.

My name is Dave, live near Peoria. 42 years of age and been around bikes for like 32 years. Started out in 1980 racing Hare Scrambles then in 82 tried MX and liked that much better - (not sure why as the race day is three times as long). Actually made "A"class in 1984 and ran that for couple years. No sandbaggin there as that was an experience. Ended up going to college, gettign married , having kids but always kept a dirt bike to play on but no racing. Then my kids got old enough to ride and whamo we are in Motocross full bore.

I broke my leg and shoulder real bad three years ago so now have focused on the kids racing and riding. I still may end up trying again as when I take my kids to ride a Walnut practice day I cannot stand to not ride.

I have 4 kids , three that ride or race. It is neat because my ten year old daughter rides a 110 and just raced at Walnut Sunday in trailblazer class and loved it. My oldest son is 15 and races 85's and Super Mini - he usually runs top three or four and I am pretty sure would smoke me if the chance arose.
My other boy is 11 and runs 85 Junior, he does real well if he stays on two wheels . He won both motos at Walnut Sunday so that was awesome to see his hardwork payoff.

Cool Thread.....

I am 42....originally from the south suburbs (Calumet City) and now live in Munster, IN. Went to SIU to be an Aircraft mechanic (I am still licensed) and have been working in IT for years....figure that out, lol. I have been into bikes for many years but mainly on the street side. My first was a briggs and stratton powered min bike with no suspension that I rebuilt in 8th grade, hehehe. My first real bike I bought in college in 1984 and it was a CB550 Four....that thing just would not die. It had drag bars and a kerker header....man I miss that thing  From there I had many street bikes and my one and only dabble into the dirt was in 1988 when I was given a 79 RM 125 that was bored out and ported, with Fox shocks, lol....It was tempermental and fast and I only rode it behind the local high school. Did not really get into it at the time (probably due to the bike). After a long lay off from bikes in general (like 10 years since my last street bike) I was once again "given" a CR125 last year and discovered, tracks, the friendly people and the soreness....oh man the soreness!. From there I got the fever and I bought my son a used CR 85 and myself an 07 CRF250R. I don't race but if I did I could probably be a solid C rider. I do enjoy it it quite a bit and don't ever see myself giving it up....it is a way of life for sure!

I also cannot believe the number of midgets in this sport!! (Ron, Poppy) :p

Cool stuff.

Some of you guys who don't race need to come out to a race sometime, even if it's just to watch. Just like riding, once you see it once and realize it's not that big of a deal, you'll be hooked!

I remember when I was still just riding and thinking of racing as this huge deal that I didn't know much about and kind of put it on a pedestal. After my first race I realized that it's not really that big of a deal and you get to know a lot of great people over the years.

My riding background:

I grew up in Elk Grove Village, IL and all the houses didn't exist in the early to mid 80's...nothing but land to ride on. I rode my bmx bike around and watched the older kids get nuts.
One day...
My father brought home box of parts and locked himself in our garage for 2 days straight (he paid $75 for the box of parts...I guess 6th gear was busted and the guy couldn't fix it). When he was done...a 1980 CR80 was made available to me. I used to ride all day long around my house and on my family's farm in Buchanan, MI (coincidentally 3 miles from Red Bud on Red Bud Trail). I got the bug and had my first race in 1988 at the Red Bud night track (I looped out at the start). Kept racing in the Midwest (Byron, Maplehurst, Red Bud, Lake County Fair, etc.) until 1992 at which time I went to college. I made it up to the top 5 in the 125 B class consistently and had to give it up to pay for school. Ten years later...a game came out for the computer (Motocross Madness) and i started to feel the need to ride again. I could not believe how much better and easier to ride the bikes had become and I race my 1997 CR250 until 2003.
Like most people that I grew up around...my parents had me in all the sports all through high school. Then college comes around and you have no format to compete (other than competing for a cup of beer at the keg). Racing mx is the perfect venue for having a reason to stay in shape and compete.
Jesus...i wrote all that? Hopefully i'll see some of you at Byron

Well let me tell ya....I am a competitive person in a big way and not scared of racing at all. The reason I haven't raced is I ask myself what's the point? I know how I am and I will end up riding over my head to try and beat somebody and I will get hurt. I enjoy riding casually and have ZERO complaints.

Yeah, you've got a point. I just like the sense of accomplishment you have after a race knowing that no matter where you finished, you gave it all you had. I also love the race day atmosphere in the pits. Most people are willing to help you out on the drop of a hat and you really get to see there are good people left in this world. :blah:

You're right 228. I feel like i'm part of a jewish fraternity when i'm at the races...everyone is cool and willing to help. The atmosphere is 90% of the fun. This is making me want to go riding. Joliet on Wednesday nights...we leave work at 5:00 (I work in Elk Grove) and am on the track by 7:00. 2 hours of straight riding is plenty so if anyone wants to go ride on Wednesday nights...let me know cause I pull a fully enclosed trailer with 1-2 bikes and I have room for three!
