so tired of this carb....

before reading this you must know im not a mechanical newbie (plenty-o-expirience) but when sh*t like this happens i feel like the first kid to break the head of a bolt in 8th grade shop class...

so for 2 days iv been gently attempting to get the siezed hot start plunger out of the carb on my 03 yz450(on the bench, 24 hours soaked in wd40, 24 hours soakd in carb clean).....and tonight afer heating the cast body of the carb (a DRY carb and a match right near the plunger) and frustration i broke a small chunk out of the threads of the hot start (cable) nut with a pik....iv been riding this bike for months without using the hot start and I think im going to JBweld the hotstart plunger closed (if, with an act of congress I can get it back down)...i just want to vent my frustration, has any one else expirienced this or is my fuse super short tonight?

and to top it off, i peeled the scab in betweeen my eyebrows and the side of my nose after taking a dirt sample saturday, and it hurt like a biotch.....

You have to find a high quality penetrating oil to soak it in. Or break apart the cable and drill it out.

After this - I found that a 15.00 Alum. hotstart nut from procircuit or Zipty along witha dab of grease will keep this from ever happening again....but most owners do not get it and choose to keep the oem plastic nut that leaks water right in and causes this:thumbsdn:

try these folks for a replacement carb parts.

I can't remember, do you need to pull the carb to replace the nut?

No, you don't.

The final way to remove the plunger safely when nothing else works is to drill a hole down the length of it as near the center as possible. Thread this hole as deeply as you can without a drill or tap touching the throttle body. Then take a long bolt the same thread size, run a nut onto it, slide a washer over that, and screw it into the plunger as deeply as you can. Now run the nut down against the washer, which should sit squarely on top of the hot start bore, and keep tightening it. It should act as a puller to extract the plunger.

i was going to drill a hole in it and just use an EZ out but since breaking the body its just going to get JB welded in the closed position....

what really ticks me off is the fact that a company as robust as yamaha didnt or doesnt take the time to notice things like this....my bike is an 03 and yea its 4 years old but internal carb components shouldnt be oxidizing for years to come....

To my knowledge all the motorcycle MFGs that use a remote hot start lever have this plastic nut for the hot start plunger. If anything, this is all on Keihin

...i need to add my results....i have come to the conclusion that the hot start was siezed open (slightly). after making sure the plunger was seated (i popped the little freeze(wrong terminology) plug out to view it) i JB welded it down. today i took the bike out.

EVERY SINGLE BIT OF DECEL POPPING IS GONE. ok i lied, if im 4th gear pinned and roll off the throttle all the way down it might fluff out a small pooffff. no more machine gun on decel. much happier. :applause: when the carb was out i DID NOT change jetting or even make adjustments to the fuel screw. it still occasionally take 5-6 kicks when hot to start (same as it was)
