I am going true a hard time so if any one can help it would be greatly
appreciated. My first question is: can I interchange the CDI from a 02 yzf 426
to a 02 yzf 250? I know they are different part numbers my question is can I
interchange just for few minutes only for check if the CDI works?
Hear is my dogma I have a 02 yzf 250 it died on me on the trail. I check and
trouble shoot and find that every resistance is on specs and I am getting 12v
from stator when I kick it but no spark on the plug. So I buy a used CDI and it
did not fix the problem so I take to a bike shop and they told me that I have a
bad CDI... hear is the kicker the guy that I boughs the CDI from tells me it
come from a working bike and I know him from past deals and he has being strait
up so far.
My dogma is I really don't want ending up with 3 good CDI's and a broke bike
so I also have a yzf 426 that has the same wire harness and one of my buds have
a 03 yzf 250 that has different wire harness on it. Those any one can give me
some help or ideas?
Thank you
:bonk:

Let them put a CDI on it. If it doesn't fix it, then don't pay for it.

There is no way to static test a CDI for being bad. A seasoned mechanic will test all the other more simplified ignition components. First try a new sparkplug, then test the kill switch, then test the external coil with an ohm meter, then check stator output, than if all these test good, then you know you have a bad CDI unit.

If you buy it and take it out of the box, you own it, whether it fixes anything or not.

If you take the bike to the dealer and tell him to fix the problem, and he then says that a CDI will do it, and after that it turns out that it doesn't, HE owns it, not you. He's bound by law in most every state to keep his end of the deal up. If he tells you it needs a CDI, and it fixes it, it will cost you more than if you fixed it the same way. But, if you are unsure, it may save you quite a bit, since if it fails to correct the problem, he cannot charge you for it, and will have to take it back off. He can also not charge you more than a diagnostic charge that you agree to in advance if he fails to fix it at all.

Something to ponder.
