I've seen alot of the group down at RV at one time or another seems like everyone has about the same riding vision. I would like to propose once the season ends this year we get together a few times to discuss a road trip Colorado, Hatfield -McCoy, or what ever. Dirt Bikes, bbq, camping and suds gentleman it don't get no better than that.

Think about it.

I wish more of you guys were street legal (I know your XR is Rod).
This ride is a blast
http://www.ozarkdualsport.com

Much of it is forest service "roads" where you have to be street legal, but there's some in the Mill Creek OHV area and also the Huckleberry Mountain multi-use trails.

There's enough OHV areas in Arkansas that it might warrant a road trip just for them though.

DRZmike1...where do you usually ride when you ride the road? That Arkansas ride looks interesting.

Well, I took the KLR on a little 5300-mile trip in July down the Continental Divide from Canada to Mexico. :ride:

Also did this earlier in August

My Husky is legal, but I just use it to connect the trails when needed.

As far as around here, I've scouted out some of the "Level B" dirt roads over in the Loess Hills of Iowa. Need to check out some more though.

A friend of mine is thinking of doing a dual sport ride up in the Niobrara river area in early Oct.

This area sucks for off-road riding IMHO. It's either River Valley (when it's not a total mud pit) or the Quarry MX, or one of the other private areas.
I like to ride trails rather than MX, so I'm pretty much screwed.:foul:

I've done the Ozarks Fall Color Tour ride every year except '99 and '05. Always a great time.

Yeah, I would much rather ride trails. Never really been into riding moto track and I think my days of real fast trails are behind me.

I hear ya. I have half a right shoulder and a bad back:cripple:

If I'm more than 2 or 3 feet in the air something has gone horribly wrong:eek: :D

Not after this rain:foul: The "loess" soil is like grease when wet, and will wash away into bike-eating ruts. I wouldn't even try it until it dries up. These are the roads with no gravel/rock on them, just dirt.
They're kinda hard to find. I have an old Iowa "sportsman's atlas" broken down by county which shows some. I have some stuff in a GPS file I recorded in '02 also. A good example would be north of Mo Valley but south of Hwy 127 there's a couple that go between Co Rd L20 (used to be Hwy 183) on the west and Co Rd L-23 on the east. I think one goes to "Sawmill Hollow" or something. There's also some cool ones near Preparation Canyon State park up by Pisgah and Moorhead, IA.
There's more south of Council Bluffs toward Glenwood and beyond too.
I'd like to come up with a route that is mostly gravel and "Level B" roads that runs from damn near Sioux City south clear to Hamburg, IA. It will take a lot of scouting though.
Some guys I know from the Norfolk area are talking about doing a dual sport ride near the Niobrara River sometime in early Oct.

You oughta go to the ride in Arkansas I mentioned above. The good thing about the Ozarks is it's so rocky you can get 2 inches of rain and ride the next day.

This post will soon be off the main page and die out, but come winter time I'm bringing it back. It would be alot of fun, a bunch of like minded dirt bikers taking a road trip. But as I have learned with the Bass Clubs we need to set down (with brew in hand) a get a date and place that works for all.

A route from Sioux City to H-burg sounds good. I do most of my riding up in the Loess Hills since there are few trails around here and I am not a track guy any more. I'm going up in the hills this afternoon for about 5 hours probably north of Mo Valley to see what's there.

I'm in for a discussion, especially if it involves beers.

But seriously, I'm always open for riding at a new place and road trips, camping, bbq, etc. are right up my alley, just let me know!

We're in too. Just need to figure out the "camping" thing. MMM gave me some advice this weekend. The "sitdown" will be helpful!

OK boys I know it's not winter yet and I've posted this web site before. Take another gander at it, Chadwick looks pretty good, :ride: Colorado looks pretty good. Good variety of trails, easy for the old dudes and challanging for the younger guys. Just some food for thought.
