is it possible to spilt the cases and put smaller gear in for the first gear to prevent stalling in the tight stuff???

Yes and no. You can install the entire wide ratio 5 speed from a '03-'06 WR450 into the bike, but you have to swap the whole, complete trans out in order to accomplish this. At about $700, it isn't that cheap, but a lot of guys would spend that on a pipe.
