Hi there. I am thinking about getting a DRZ 400E but feel some mods would be worthwhile.

1. Larger tank. 2 gallons doesn't go far.
2. Lowering kit. I barely reach the ground and would gladly give up an inch or two to feel more comfortable.
3. Saddle. Is this thing as tough on the buns as it looks?

I'd be interested in other's perspective on these topics. Do these mods exist? Got web sites?

Dave,
Look to the aftermarket for these mods. IMS makes a larger 2.8 or 3.2 tank w or w/out dry break that supposedly is pretty slim (Kedrowsky uses it). The new Kouba link rear suspension Dogbones due out pretty soon reportedly lower the rear 3/4" improving suspention action at the same time. You would need to raise the front fork tubes to compensate the front end. as far as the seat goes, coming off an RM250 and KX250 the seat isn't that bad for me. You can always add a little foam and an aftermarket cover.I get over 100 miles to a tank on my bike and that will cover me through most events and the reserve is an added bonus too.
My advice (and I'm sure all the owners on this discussion group would concur) would be to buy one and fix any minor flaws with after market products. you won't be sorry. I should qualify that: If you're looking for an all around killer trail bike that can be used for occasional street/moto/cross country/ enduro use and are less than expert level racer... Mike

stock tank is 2.64 gallons and should be good for nearly 70 miles at low elevations and probably nearly 90 miles at high elevations. that's pretty far.

i think i will stick with the stock tank even when i go to Colorado in Sept. we generally ride 80-130 miles per day.

actaully the saddle is pretty comfortable. believe it or not Dirt Rider magazine called the seat .............SOFT!!!!!!!
