I just had the pleasant job of changing the stock Dunlops for a set of Pirelli MT 21's for dual sport use. Damn those Pirelli's are stiff! Isn't tire changing fun???
Anyway, the stock tubes are junk. I think my mountain bike tubes are thicker! I installed a set of heavy duty tubes and recommend you do the same. Bike will be on the road tomorrow. Pictures coming soon Bryan. I promise!! I don't have a digital camera so I have to get my film developed and then scan them.

The thickest are made by Bridgestone. you'd almost think they are a tire themselves. yes thick tubes help prevent flat tires!! on a ride in Colorado, me and 9 other riders, rode some 550 miles each, through the tightest trails we could find(most rocky as hell) and NONE of us got a flat. same thing the year after that!!
good stuff.

I had Michelin UHD tubes in my MT-21's....and I just tore the valve stem out of my FRONT MT-21 the other day. 1500 hard miles on it, but no rim-lock (do you really need one in the front?).

Must've been tweaked in the rim for a while, but lots of serious off road it was just fine.....but pop out onto the street, hoist up a nice wheelie and ride it out a bit and when I put the front down it all went PSSSSSSSSSST. That was that, show over.

I hear the Maxxis dessert IT's are stiff as hell. I have a set of MT21's on the bike right now. They were a pain using spoons but I have a tire changer from HF now so its pretty easy.

I have a set of Maxxis desert IT and they are stiff sidewall. Its hard to tell if you have air in the tire or not. I air them to 18 psi. I use the same stock tubes with no problems but I have rim locks. I just put 100 miles on them in the desert rocks and sand and I can say I like them. Steep rocky hill climbs no problem. Sand washes at high speed and they track real well.

I've been working and playing with bikes for 36 years. Prying the big Teraflex onto the skinny DRZ rim is the most unpleasant job I have ever done on a motorcycle.

I had to laugh... I'm like who in teh heck doesn't own a digicam... and would develop and scan film.

Then I saw the date and it all made sense. :bonk:
