Time to get serious, I would like to know what mods can be made to the S model to give her more go in the dirt.

At the moment the gearing is pretty steep and this baby can get about 90 in top, would like to gear her down for a more leisurly off road set up. Any suggestions on the number of teeth I should look at for the front sprocket.

Also what carb mods do you suggest (like dump the CV and get a pumper :) ), or re-jet ?

IMS have just released a 3 gal plastic tank for the DRZ, so I may just get this as well.

Hey Bundu! Its easy to get more performance out of your DRZ400S.
1. Remove the digital gauges.
2. Slip a DRZ400E underneath.
3. Re-attach gauges.
There! You now have a fast DRZ. :)

Hey i_carumba where have you been ? ... how was the MX course, got back in one piece I hope , or are you sore all over.

Yeah, I knew some wise guy would come up with the E suggestion :), No, I am not looking for MAX power, but would like to set her up for the dirt, the lower compression suits me fine, just want a bit more on the lower end.

Mx school started kinda crappy. I was slow, intimidated by the jumps and couldn't figure out the whoops. By the end of the day it was great though. I was riding good and jumping good. I still sucked in the whoop section though. I was doing a small double jump and a couple of 30 foot tabletop jumps. The feeling of keeping the gas on hard, getting big air and clearing a long tabletop and landing on the down ramp is
awesome! Like flying and the landing is real smooth. Anyone who has not tried a mx track really should. It is real fun and a very tough workout. I am still sore all over!
The DRZ was great. The forks are soft for the big jumps but it turns amazingly good and is very fast. Just plain fun to ride!
I am going riding Saturday and hope to get more practice at the mx track on Sunday. At this rate, I will never get the dual-sport conversion done! I guess its my fault for buying a bike that is so much fun to ride.I just can't stay off it!

I was wondering if the 15T on the "s" has a rubber mount built into it like my old DRS did. I'm looking into putting a 15T on mine for the road. For off road you should try a 13T

This weekend I took delivery of the new Acerbis Rally dual sport bark busters, will fit them shortly and submit some pics of the "new" bike.

Also took out the exhaust cap, what's that in it - the spark arrestor ? (never had one of those before !!) - rode around without the cap, bike sounds more like a thumper, and has a little more low end (not too noisy either :) )- so where does one get an exhaust cap without the arrestor, or do I have to mod or remove the arrestor.

Also removed the air box snorkel, must ask you guys, how and what can by removing this thing do make any difference to the power, you must be increasing the air intake diameter by a few millimeters at the most ?!

I have the new 13 tooth front sprocket, so I decided to check out the S toolkit - what a joke, this must be from the local Toys R Us, anyway, they do not include a 26, or 28 spanner, whatever holds on the front sprocket, so I may just have to invest in a new tool set, my ratchet/socket set at the moment only goes up to a 22mm. Hopefully when I have this sprocket on I should get a bit more low down power. I barely managed to get the front wheel to lift on a quick acceleration test yesterday.

The Acerbis front light and taillight should arrive this week, and all I will need then will be the plastic tank - will put in an order for it this week. The 3.0 gal tank retails at $165 from Baja Designs, and fortunately my local Suzuki dealer matches the Baja Designs prices, so I end up getting about a 20 percent discount with each purchase.

So guys shop around before you buy, get the best price you can for a part or accessory, and then ask your local dealer to match it, 9 times out of 10 I can bet they will.

More news to follow in the weeks to come.

A friend and myself just picked up two DRZ400S. Super bikes. Removed rubber footpeg inserts to work with MotoJac Rack. Waiting for new tires: Dunlop D606 and D905 for front. Added left and right engine plastic guards and rear disk guard (like DRZ400); bike should come with these.

I bought the Suzuki engine guards that are on the DRZ-400/E. I wanted plastic for some flex and to protect the magnesium covers. Part #42521-29F00, 42531-29F00, 69725-29F00 for the Water Pump, Mag, and Rear Disk guards. Price $18.75, $18.75, and $13.59. I also bought some bolts and washer: #01547-06123, 09111-08087, and 08322-01067.

Would like to open up carb intake and rejet; anyone rejet the Mikuni BSR36 yet?

Still waiting for my tires to come in; the most important mod for the DRZ-400S

The rear disk guard part number on the last post is wrong. The number given is for the caliper guard. The local dealer has trouble with part numbers!

Does anyone have the part number for the DRZ400S service manual? The one I got was for the 400 and 400E versions (99500-43020-01E).

My new dunlop D606 and D905 tire work great!
