APRIL OPEN HOUSE MEETINGS SET ON TILLAMOOK FOREST RECREATION PLAN
In April, the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) will hold public
meetings in Tillamook and Hillsboro to discuss updating the Tillamook State Forest Recreation Plan. The open house sessions will be held Monday, April 10, in the Commissioners Meeting Room - Tillamook County Courthouse, 201 Laurel Ave.,
in Tillamook and Thursday, April 13, in the
Tuality Health Education Center, 334 S.E. Eighth Ave., in Hillsboro. The meetings will run 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The meetings are open to the public, and flip charts will be provided for those who wish to submit comments.
Approved by the Oregon Board of Forestry and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Commission six years ago, the Tillamook Recreation Plan guides recreation management on the 364,000-acre state forest established on the site of the historic Tillamook Burn. Most of the action items included in the plan have been
accomplished.
A steering committee formed last year to oversee the update process established a framework for revising the action plan component of the recreation plan and began gathering information.
Members include representatives of the Tillamook and Washington county commissions, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Oregon State University, the Tillamook
Recreation Advisory Committee and ODF.
To encourage public involvement in the planning process and enhance the exchange of information and ideas, the meetings will employ an open house format. During the first hour, the public will be invited to visit several stations located around the room. ODF personnel and steering committee members will staff the stations. Each station will focus on a specific category of recreation. In the latter half of the meeting, small-group brainstorming sessions will be formed to gather public input.
Public comment may be submitted to the department at the meetings or via letter or email. A web page,
www.odf.state.or.us/tsf/actionplan.htm,
will be activated after April 5 to provide information on the recreation plan update process. Visitors may email comments on the planning process directly from the web page. The deadline for sending comments is April 28. Letters should be submitted to the Public
Use Coordinator, Oregon Department of Forestry, 801 Gales Creek Rd., Forest Grove, Oregon 97116 by the same date.
The Tillamook State Forest in northwestern Oregon hosts a variety of recreational activities, ranging from hiking and
mountain biking to hunting and fishing. ODF manages a system of non-motorized and motorized trails, camping and day-use
areas, interpretive sites and other visitor facilities in Oregon's largest state-owned forest.
In order to ensure the broadest range of services to individuals with disabilities, lead-time may be needed to make the necessary arrangements. Persons requiring a sign language interpreter, assistive listening device, large print material
or other accommodations, should contact John Barnes at the Department of Forestry office in Forest Grove at least two working days (48 hours) in advance at (503) 359-7427. Text telephone (TTY) communication is available at 1-800-437-4490 (outside Salem) and 945-7213 (in Salem).
FOOTNOTE: This is VERY IMPORTANT. With the recent move by the Greenies to have State Parks take over the Tillamook State Forest, we can be sure they will turn out in force in an attempt to close the Forest to motorized use.
Motorized user must turn out in force to the meetings and with written comments.
PLEASE TAKE PART IN OUR STRUGGLE!!!!!!!!
Thanks
