When I bought my bike a couple of weeks ago I bought the yoshimura exhaust for my new DRZ 400. And after calling yoshimura I found that the carb needed to be rejetted. ( which is not an easy task. ) from the stock 142 main to a 165 main, and 2/12 turns out on the air screw. I also live at 1000 ft above sea level. Also I increased the Idle just a bit.
oh yeah, when I took the steering stem apart to grease the bearings, I decided to install a grease zert in the frame on the steering head. so next year I'll just fill'er up.
I think the pipe really lets the bike pull harded throughout the entire power band.
It is more fun to ride with the after market pipe installed . p.s.
I was able to adjust the air screw and exchange the main jet without manipulating the carb body. it is difficult and tedious but it is possible.
( I bent a small screw driver at a right angle and took small bites to accomplish the task ) Be for warned you will be working with just your finger tips and should not have had coffee for several hours ...
as for the jett , use an open end wrench to take the drain cap off of the bottom of the float bowl, Then with a 6mm socket go up through the float bowl and remove the main jett and replace with the 165 jett. NOW put the main jett in the socket and using your finger tips start the threads into the carb through the float bowl ... THATS IT GOOD LUCK
