I am thinking about which type of oil to
run in this beauty now that the break in period is over, open for suggestions.
Synthetic,Semi-synthetic, or good ole petrolumn, I've always used Golden Spectro
which is a semi-synthetic based, in my 2-stroke, but thos days are gone now. What do
you guys think ?
p.s. kudos on the great site Brian !!!

from what i have heard and read it IS ok to use synthetics AFTER break in. it may help the notchy shifting. but most full synthetics are horribly expensive $7.50-$10.00 PER FRIGGEN QUART!!!!!

cutting through all the B.S.-------Mobil 1 is the best/ least expensive. pretty darned reasonable price considering it's quality.

conventional oils are fine, however. just make sure to change the oil often.

Dr.BillZ thanks for the reply, I've heard alot of good about Mobil 1 the only reason
why I was thinking of Semi-synthetic is because I heard it can give troubles to the
clutch plates and friction plates on some bikes. But Notchy shifting ?? This thing
shifts like a dream compared to the 85 XR350
and the 89 WR250 I used to own. Only going
from 1st to 2nd passing neutral do I notice
a slight notchy feel.

Call me Chicken i can handle it but I'm afraid to use anything but regular motorcycle oil as recommended by Suzuki.

My friends fried his XR600 clutch using synthetic oil. I'm not sure what kind though. It caused us lots of grief the rest of the day not to mention the time it took him to replace the whole thing.

I would rather not take any chances and change my oil more often and keep my clutch intact.

I am breaking mine in on regular 15w50.
After break-in I will be running Mobil 1 15w50 synthetic. I am sold on synthetics and think they are far superior to regular oil. Motorcycle specific oil is a waste of money though. Mobil 1 is just as good, if not better at a far more realistic price. But of course the main thing, especially with regular oil, is frequent oil changes.

Several years old, but informative.

The mistake most people make is that they run Mobil 1 that is designed for cars intheir bikes. I run Mobil 1 in my car, but then I also run Mobil 1 Racing 4t in my WR. The Racing 4t is NOT a friction modified oil, and that's what is needed for a wet clutch. Most people that fry clutches are using full synthetic friction modified oil designed for cars. You can also stuff a clutch with friction modified mineral oil.
