Picked her up yesterday morning - immediately took a 40 mile detour on the way home - bike started first "kick" - is very smooth, and extremely docile when ridden quietly, on the other hand, start her up, rev it through the gears and it rips, kept it cool on the way home, and managed to get her up to about 75 on some of the back roads (yeah, it does have a groovy digital speedo i_carumba :D ) - bike just pulls and pulls - feels like a desert racer with the higher gearing - may get 80 or 90 out of this baby - way too much speed - was left there flapping in the breeze - will have to consider getting a smaller front sprocket when I hit the dirt - have placed an order in for the dual sport rally guards, the enduro tail light and lightweight sporty acerbis front light - will also get the IMS or Acerbis plastic tank before I do some serious off road stuff.

Now if anyone else out there has invested in the S, I would also like to hear on what performance mods you guys may be considering ie: airbox, jets, carb, gearing etc. Would also like to hear about removing the restricter plate in the carb - yes, I would like a little more ooomph from this baby.

Hey Bill, with the smaller front sprocket I will be able to extend my wheelbase by a little bit - should make the off road stuff more fun :)

Oh yes, only one complaint, this bike is quiet - used to ride an 84 XR500RE without the baffle, and the XR had a beautiful sound - doob doob doob, this DR is tame - FRRR FRRR FRRR - no big bore thump.

And yes, the bike is pretty tall - On board it feels great, but at 5.8 (1.72m), my toes just touch the ground - got my wife to take a spin with me and had to work hard to keep the bike upright while doing the load and off load (oh yeah, this baby has rear foot pegs - tis a real sissy bike.)

Best thing about the ride home, stalled the bike while at a stop, was turning into a downhill, pulled in the clutch while still on the go, eased her into the intersection, hit the button, all went so smoothly, all fixed in one quick motion - lovely - groovy baby, groovy - now if it was that old XR500R, man I would have been in trouble - this happy button is going to sell plenty of these "mighty yellow zonkers" er ... true blue Suzukis. :D

As to the road tyres, these are very smooth, no shake rattle and roll, will have to see if they are the end of me when I do some Bundu Bashing - have been considering getting a second set of wheels, with some serious off road rubber - being a techno junkie, I would love to see how the new 20 inch front wheel performs, all that extra rubber gives the bike max traction up front - I can just see it, new Exel rims front and rear for the days I hit the dirt - will have a real Jeckyl and Hyde thumper.

All in all, a great first day with the new girl of my dreams - Suzi - tis love baby .... Shagadelic baby ....... Oh behave :D

Run through some of the old posts or go to search and you will find all of the most popular mods. Most do aftermarket pipe, 3x3 airbox mod., rejet, change to DOT tires and remove all unwanted weight. One of the more popular tires and I don't want to push them on you just cause it was my pick are the Dunlop 606's. Not the best (but good) offroad tire but a good tire that lasts a while and can be used on the street. Good luck, stay safe and above all have fun.
