most loved thing or things about your wr.......

Recommended Posts

Well, I ride a YZ, but have a 01 WR250F on order, and here's my wish list of items that I hope Yamaha has addressed on the WRs...

-Tank/Seat juncture, width

-Less restrictive, tuneable exhaust

-YZ timing from factory

-Decent radiator guards

-Better engine/frame guards

-Braided front brake line

-Decent tires (739s are a joke)

-O-ring chain

-Handlebars that will not get thrown away before the first ride

-Oh, yeah, a little bit of grease wouldn't hurt either

Am I asking too much???

I definitely agree with all of the above. I think every one of us has spent big $$$ on accessories & mods to get the bike closer to perfection.

I love the 6th gear idea, as I'm usually looking for one more on the road too.

One other addition: riding with my buddy who has a KTM with the happy button is most annoying. When will Yamaha add electric start???

I love the way my 00 WR400F wheelies. It is so fun to start at the back of the pack and pass my friend,2 cousins, sister, aunt 4whlr, uncle,Mom 4whlr,and most of all, my Dad on his DRZ400, all on a wheelie, leaving them in the dust. :D:D:D:D?

begining in first and running through all the gears, I laugh just thinking of the look on all their faces :D:D as I pass them with the front wheel high in the air.

E Start, YZ tank optional when new at n/c, loose the cheesy stock muffler that we get in Canada. Lower centre of gravity somehow. Rode new KTM400 EXC, weighs the same, feels 30 lbs lighter! After 1 ride, I sold my WR and bought new 01 400 EXC. The WR still does have a little more motor than the KTM though. I cant believe how easy the KTM kicks over compared to the WR! No TDC, no compression release, just kick it over like a 2 stroke and away you go! Or you can be real lazy and just push the button!

I would really like a sixth gear. My bike is dual sported and I am constantly banging up on the lever when I am already in fifth.

It would be nice to ride on the road with out revving it to the max and still have a reasonable gear for dirt use.

If Yamaha wants to remain competetive (or continue to dominate, take your pick) with KTM, Cannondale and the sure-to-come CR four stroke they should, like KTM, offer 3 models:

YZ - 5 speed close ratio, 2 gallon tank, hard, skinny gripper seat, good bars

WR - 6 speed wide, skinny , low profile 3.4 gallan tank (I finally saw a Ty Davis tank in person, maybe Yamaha should just buy it) fatter, softer seat foam w/ normal cover, Cycra handguards, o-ring chain and crossbarless bars for all the Scott’s you see at off-road events.

WRE - WR w/ electric start.

And of course 5 more ponies and 15 less pounds would do wonders for what are already the best dirt bikes on the planet. They could easily charge seven or eight hundred more for the WR to pay for the lighting, tank etc. which is way less than I have spent on my YZ. If you haven’t guessed the WR described above is basically the bike I have now minus a slimmer tank and one gear.

I have to tell you guys...remember it wasnt long ago that the trickest thumper on earth was the Suzuki DR350!!

I rode thumpers back when thumpers werent cool. TT500's, TT600's, XR's, etc...

The beautiful blue thumpers are still the most awesome thing to come down the pipeline in a longgggggg time!!

I for one am very happy with it. Yeah, it has a its flaws, but wow have they come a long way!!!

I'm with Vincent! There will always be better and I for one don't want to try and keep up with the Johnson's every year by buy the latest and greatest bike. My goal this fall is to focus on perfecting my techniques. I believe I'll be faster than any rookie KTM rider regardless of how fast and lite his bike is. 95% rider, 5% bike. The WR is heavy and not the best handler in the world however; I've seen guys ride them like they were a two smoke 125! Were just getting spoiled with technology! Enjoy.
