DIY oil temp dipstick

Recommended Posts

FYI some guy posted the thread size somewhere in the forum,it was listed as being M20-2.5 and as Cleo said most of the B&S engines utilize that thread size for the oil filler caps so you may check at your local salvage parts. One question tough, what would be the max. oil temp on an 650L model since most cooking thermometers top out at 220f.

I used a M20-2.5 bolt which I cut the head off and drilled a hole down the center. A little JB weld and the thermometer was inserted through the hole. The cooking thermometer I found at walmart for about $6 and it reads to 400 degrees fahrenheit.

A pic of yours too!

If your camera doesn't have a macro/close-up setting(the little flower icon), then you can hold the camera 6-10ft away and zoom in. It should help clear up the picture some. It looks like yours was focusing on the lower triple alright, so maybe try shooting the dipstick at that distance.

I have the digital termo, it actually looks like its the same one in the pics, but I'm having a hard time finding the plug or bolt with the right threads, none of the autopart stores around here have one, any advice. By the way this is for a 650r, i assume the threads are the same.
