YZ426F or YZ450F

i just got a 2002 426. love it. the carb needs a little work(due to some jack hole letting it sit for a few years) but it is fast. i raced my bud with a 03 crf450, and smoked him 3 out 4 races.(he was pissed)

have 00 426 and no issues raced 20 times at the dunes last sunday and not one bike beat me.love the power and turning is easy once u get use to it.ever reving top end and heavy hiting on the bottom its an awsome bike.lots of fun on the worm trails or open dunes.ride it every where mx track,single track,hillclimbs it can handle everything.

I ride a '02 426 and I love it. The power is fantastic, I giggle sometimes when I feel that power because it is so fun to ride. It is much lighter and spry than my previous '98 YZ400F.

However, I have to say, that if you are just getting into riding, I would reccomend the 450--my Two reasons, are; the 426 starting drill (1st kick, decompression kick, starting kick hot-choke--do it all over again, don't forget to put the hot choke back in) is ridiculous and the 450 will be even lighter still. For the $200 extra, you will progress faster, and enjoy riding more in the first year than you would w/the 426.

Whichever you decide on, you will have a great year! Have fun!

You do know that "the drill" is also unnecessary, right? You can install the '03-'05 YZ 450 cam, or an after market 426 cam with auto decomp in your bike and be done with that.

2004 YZ450F is what I will most likely be picking up this weekend (Can't wait). Anything I should look for when I pick it up? I pretty good at looking at the overall condition of items (chain, sprocket, tires etc.) how should I look at the bearings however? Any common issues with this year of the bike?
