Tripple Clamps

Recommended Posts

Got an 07 yz450f been riding about a year. Love tracks, do all the jumps (Sandy Valley). I want to change my tripple clamps. What do the stock clamps come from the factory as 20mm,22mm,24mm. I also ride trails, washes whenever I have to (with friends). Thinking about RG3's. Need some imput before I drop the cash.

Stock up through '06 is 25mm. Do you know for a fact that the '07 comes at 24mm? What is your source?

I thought the 07 still uses 25mm offsets, but they made the linkage for the rear shock 1.5 inches longer to help with the turning dilema. I'm not certain, but again, I think they are still 25's:excuseme:

That's what I was thinking, but this would be the second time I've heard someone say that the '07 had a 24mm offset. If it's verifiable, I'd like to know it. Looking at the service manuals, it doesn't look that way.

The manual lists the rake on the '06 as 27 degrees, and the trail as 115.6mm. For the '07, it lists 26.8 degrees (due, as you said, to the longer shock, I would think) and 114.1. It's a little surprising that a 0.2 degree decrease in head angle would result in that much loss of trail (so now I'll have to play with some trig to see that) but it certainly doesn't look like they changed the clamp offset.

OTOH, I noticed that the Euro models of both years have 1mm more trail, and the French model another mm more than that (see page 2-3).

I'd like to see the numbers on the '08.
