06 450 handles badly: what triple clamps?

I have got good tires, correct sag, forks slid up even past the line, etc and my 06 450 still lacks any front end feedback at all. You cannot trust it, it will wash out every time...there is no traction there, you just have to stomp your foot on the ground all the time to keep from falling over,. what aftermarket clamps (triple clamps) wil cure this? please help, I am ready to ghost ride this bike into a pond

I heard guys like the 22mm and 24mm offset clamps, stock is 25mm so I would go with the 22s for a noticable difference. Also might want to try decreasing your sag to <95mm.

an '06 YZ450 does NOT handle bad. Sounds to me more like a novice rider blaming his bike rather than his abilities. Try a better front tire if you still have the stock D739, get more of an intermediate terrain tire.

i had a mediocre D756 front that i thought was fine. i bought a new one (same tire) just to try it out and it blew me away....i could lean that biatch over so much further and absolutely dig hardcore in corners.....

people say my 03 handles dumpy compared to the 06+...i havent ridden an 06 or newer yet but i havent heard one bad thing about the handling......

what type of terrain are you riding

It aint a Zuk in the corners but it can be made better with 24mm or 33mm clamps - this is a personal choice. Before you do this tall seat foam will also help get your butt farther forward. DRD says 24s and Team Yami says 22.

I am going with 24s. Also a good tire helps we use Michelin MS3s and they hook up great.?

I am never tired of bashing suzuki!! really I would love to make my YZ handle like a Suzuki. I. always said the RMZ was an awesome handling bike , even if I found it to be shit in the reliability department. I have never ridden a 450 that turns like an RMZ

And to the guy who said I sounded like a novice blaming the bike, I am a fairly decent A rider with 20+ yrs of experience...I am well aware that the 06 was supposed to handle so much better than the steel framed 450 but in all honesty the handeling is still bad compared to a Honda and terrible compared to an RMZ450. It just lacks any feel in the front end and washes out unless you sit on the gas cap

IMO the bike does push in the front end pretty badly. Raise your forks, get rid of the stock tire and set your sag to 95mm. If you still don't like it, change your offset to 22mm. Thats where I'm headed next. I think for most people the bike handles fine, but once you reach a certain level of riding you start to see the limits of its corning ability.

I have done the same things you have to my 06' and finally went with 24mm offset Applied. It worked. I noticed the difference right away and gain more confidence with the front end every time I ride it. I didn't think I would be able to tell one mm, but it really helped the front end. I have the clamps just below the line on the forks, revalved suspension, and run 97mm of sag. This is the best I have seen it and have tried many combinations. I run a 756 here in PA.

While you're at it safety wire the accelerator pump closed and put in a 70 leak jet. This makes it almost as responsive as a two stroke, if you want that. I run a stock pipe and with that carb mod and the right jetting my bike is just as fast as anyone else on the track.

I'm now waiting on buying an 07 or 08. If the 08 handles better because of the frame mods then the clamps can probably be left stock. If not I'll put 24mm on it too.

before you drop some serious coin on clamps.......have you played with your clickers? im sure you have but if the comp is too stiff and the rebound too fast, then your bike will behave as it does. soften and speed up first......it shouldnt react as bad as you are claiming:thumbsup:

I don't think the 24mm will make any noticeable difference. Its only a 1mm change from the stock offset. If your going to drop any coin on clamps I would do to the 22mm.

I agree, making the compression softer helps the front wheel on the '06 YZ450F to grip better. If you really want to spend the cash, Motocross action mag said(in the September issue) to go for the Zip-Ty 17mm clamps for the biggest change in steering.

From all the stuff I have tried on 05-06-07 Yamaha's the clamps were not the fix for your problem. After trying everything from links to clamps I found that the correct springs and suspension valving / set-up were the answer. I actually found that clamps may have made the bike turn better in some situations but overall made it handle in a way I did not like. Don't know where to tell you to send your suspension as I do my own. These forks need serviced often as the oil in the cartridge gets dirty fast. If you get the mid-valve in the forks set-up correctly and the sag at 95-100 mm you will not have any compaints with the YZ.

what terrain are you riding on? two things i did to make my 06 450 handle better was moving my rear axle pretty far forward, and got a rekluse e-axle, which i still play with all the time, depending on the terrain and my mood i guess. also, softer fork compression helped alot too.

the 03's do handle crappy compared to the 06's, im actually selling my 03 so i can get a 06 haha
