XR650L mods

Recommended Posts

I'm new to the sight,so be easy LOL.Anyway,I have a 2002 Honda XR650l.I just ordered a used Yosh slip on muffler from Ebay. The pipe is off a sport bike, but I'm going to modifie to fit the bike.I want to Install a clamp on Pod air filter.I have already installed a smog block off.I will be doing Dave's Mods to the carb.My question is,will the bike run ok with a pod filter and a big slip- on?Noise is not a factor because I'm in a rural area. What size jets should I start with, with a pod filter and a free flowing exhaust?I have heard 160/55,but I think I should go bigger?

If that pipe is off a sreet bike then it must be a heck of a lot bigger then a stock muffler, No-Yes ?

If so, I think you will need to go higher on the main, maybe move the needle up (clip down) and so fourth.

I would think it may be obnoxious loud with a muffler like that, Is it that huge, what kind exactly ?

It's a Yoshumura from a GSXR.I paid $5.00 for it.I have not received the pipe yet,so I really don't know how big it is yet.I have a Yoshumura pipe on my 1986 ZX1000 and it's not that big and not loud at all.For $5.00,I don't think I got hurt.Any thoughts or ideas?I'm on a tight budget and I want a unique look.

Well I put the Yosh pipe on today,it's not much louder than the stocker with the baffle out.I also did Dave's carb mod's with 158/55 jets, and cleaned up the welds inside the head pipe.It has ALOT more power, and I still have the stock air filter.I think I will order a stock replacement UNI filter this week.I'm very happy with the results. Thanks to all you for the help and esspecally Dave.Any other ideas for squeeking out a little more power with out replacing the carb?
