Stories of Mikes Sky Ranch? I'll start.

1982, May, Hus 420 Auto. Getting ready to leave Sunday morning with Bill Halbert and several other Husky West riders and friends. I had just dumped my fuel from my Prestone bottles and added my oil in the Vesco tank and was shaking the bike back and forth, mixing the oil/fuel.

This guy comes up and asks me why I'm shaking my bike back and forth?

I tell him the Husky Auto needs to be shaken 20 times before it will start. He replies that is a strange starting procedure and walks back to his bike. I kick start the bike and take off smiling. Too funny!:ride:

Ooh,  that's sweet looking Blue.

Mikes Sky Ranch...  August 31st '97
Three day party, 150+ people, 12 naked chicks in the pool, Chad in his red speedo, the Baja Fools, all the booze you could drink, way too much food, some fun riding...
Oh, and a wedding happened too.

We'll be celebrating 10 years next month.

There's also my 1st ride there in '75 on my MR50, I still remember that (after all the concussions over the years).
And when my 5 year old and I rode there double on a 650, that was really fun.
Then last year riding there with my Dad (from TKT) and my son rode from VdT to the Ranch.  Tres Generations - 7, 39, and 71.  Very memorable.

Stency,

That is a very nice offer. I mean, for you to offer to pay for 150 person party at Mikes. WOW!  Happy anniversary to BBM, the luckiest man on earth. ('cause he has the best wife)

Sounds like a blast. Let's do it.

I promise not to run head-on into any cars this time.

Thanks again Steny. You Rock!

Can Bluehorse come?

Well, you know how it is Ron. When you don't get an invite to the first one, you try to make the second one.

I used to work offshore drilling for oil in the late 70's early 80's.  We worked on a two weeks on, one week off schedule.  I spent so much of my time off camping out at Mike's that Mike was trying to talk me into pulling trailer in to leave parked.  I spent many, many nights at the end of the bar with Ramon pouring the bottom of the batch of Margaritas made for other guests into my glass. The Sat dish ruined the conversations at the bar, and after Ramon got arrested and Mike died I stopped going in at all.

All this time, I thought Ramon went back to his home on the coast after Mike Sr died? Those were the days, one Tee shirt design for years:thumbsup: . Never had to call for reservations on any weekend:thumbsup: . The jeep ran good, the air strip had single engine planes on it, guys flew in to hunt and fish, ride horses, hang out. I never have seen the actual owner of that Class C dodge that sits below the wall on a pad?

That one summer when two of Mikes friends drove down to se him. We came in one Saturday afternoon during the summer, Bill Halbert, his ex brother in law, myself and a couple others. An old Caddy and Honda 2 door Accord were parked in front. This would be around 1982. Caddy and Honda had considerable rock dings in under carriage, but they were there, parked out front. Wish I had brought a camera back then:cry: .

He had a nephew that lived in IB and would drive his stock Ford Ranger down to spend a night on Saturdays and then drive home. This guy was in his 20's at the time, just as I was (81-85 era)

Grass back in the valley would be nice as Tim mentioned earlier. I wonder how much seed you would need and whether or not the squirils and birds would eat it all before it started to grow? Reading all the sticker and business cards helps with your restored vision after a night of drinking:crazy: .

Ramon was arrested for  child porn at the boarder!!!  When did everyone start calling Miguel, Mike Jr??

My best story was taking my best friends, Mom's Monte Carlo into Mikes from San Telmo in 1974.  We had help with a wench in two places.  Funny how that car just was never quite the same after that!

Then there was the one in 1976 a buddy and I decide to go down for the 500 two days before the race.  His car was broken and I was using a Ducati GT750 for transportation.  So we rode my Duc down double up.  Got to the Colone (sp?) Motel and partied heavily with Morgan Malaco & Tommy Brooks all night.  Got up early next morning (after sleeping on the floor next to my Duc) and for some reason decided that we needed to be in at Mikes just because that was where the real party would be.  So we get to Trinidad and decide for some reason that we should take the Duc in via Simpsons.  Yeah, double up, street tires and all. We get about half way in and I finally tagged a rock with that big cast aluminum pan and put a pretty good hole in it.  So, while we are waiting for the JB weld to set (and finish off another beer), Jim Fishback and his dad ride up as they are finishing Jim's prerun.  Jim stops, looks at us and just laughs a big "WTF are you guys doing"?  "Huh, who us??? Ahhhh nothing really, Why do you ask???  No really Jim,  we're  ok...." God, did I ever get caught red handed being a complete dumb ass.  We did finally get in with no other problems and I really don't remember anything else about the party at Mikes.

I used to watch Jim Fishback race speedway at the Orange Show in San Bernardino "Speedway the only reason for Weds. nights" anyone remember that. I also saw Brucey "Sprucey" Penhall race there, [I beleive his first].

This last 1000 on our way to La Paz we landed in Lareto only to find the 1 car we were supposed to bring home had been hit hard in the silt bed mess and was out early. So Bud tells his freind the pilot to take us to Gonzaga where we could stay with either Malcom or Jim Sr.

We get there and find Fishbacks place, [the pilots were old friends with the Fishbacks] well lets just say they are the nicest people you could ever meet. We rode their kwads around, had dinner at Alfonsinas, and slept on the Fishbacks patio after listening to some Baja racing stories from the early days.

Jim Sr. told me that his son is no longer racing.

Bill Friant. Another name I haven't thought of in a very long time. When did he pass?

I learned the importance of bringing Tyenol with me at Mikes. After a long night bench racing in the bar. Long before there was a TV to watch, when you had to bring your own conversation with you each night.
