Dr. Mark, I am 51 and have fought CTS for years, did not want to admit I had it. I am riding a leg of the Baja 1000 this year and after my stint in the 500 decided to have the surgery.

I had the nerve conductivity tests and the Doctor said I was a 7 on a 10 scale. About the same in both hands.

I have an appointment August 2nd. and don't know what I should be asking. I think I want both done at the same time because I am worried about recovery time before the 1000 in mid November.

Thanks, Rich Deveau

I do them both at the same time using a miniopen technique.
My recurrence rate so far has been zero percent, and guys are back to their regular lives the next morning.

I am certain that the guys out there in the Land of Fruits and Nuts do it very differently and I wouldn't know what their expected post of course is.

Maybe you should visit me. I will send you back tot he land of Nancy Pelosi without a splint or encumbering dressing the next morning.

Is your miniopen technique the endoscopic method? Neat little procedure.

No, I don't use the endoscope. I make a one centimeter incision directly over the carpal tunnel and use loupes. Its faster and more reliable than the endoscopic method.

The post op plan is immediate motion and return to ordinary daily activities of daily living the morning afterward. Return to heavy work and sports is at four weeks. That is signifigantly faster than the endo method.

I love all this doctor stuff when you two start comparing notes. Really.

Educational and I know from personal experience how different docs will come up with different solutions for the same problem.

I have been in contact with Dr. Mark and am seriously looking at traveling to Houston for the surgery. Seems kind of crazy at first, but it also seems crazy to be cheap about getting my body fixed. And it sounds like it may not really cost that much more than going through my insurance here in California. Plus I have heard Houston is wonderfull in August!!

LMAO...its usually hot as hell in Texas in August, but for some reason the man upstairs thinks Texas needs some rain. Victoria has gotten 55" since January!

Search the forums to see what all of the others think that have visited him. In my opinion, it was well worth the money to fly into Houston and see Dr Mark for an ACL tear. My family members and co-workers all thought I was crazy too but its my body not theirs. Just staying off crutches and walking immediately was worth the $$$.
