What's this rubber do on counter shaft sprocket ?

This is a stock L sprocket.

:excuseme: What's it accomplish ?

Does it dampen chain noise or what?

my drz stock sprocket had one too... I can only surmise that it deadens any vibration from the engine... with an aftermarket sprocket on, I can't tell the difference
