Well, I broke my femur last Thursday night, and got surgery on Friday, in which the doctor at UMC here in Vegas put a rod through my bone. They already have me up on a walker, and did a couple days after surgery. I have been moving around decent, and have no weight bearing limit.

How long should I look at being out for, provided I get into PT early. Will this heal quicker than the collar bone I also broke in the same crash?

hey kyle. glad to hear you're up and around. i was supposed to get a rod in my femur, but it turned out the lower part of the bone was split all the way to the knee joint. doh! so my recovery probably doesn't apply to you at all, since i have a bigass plate and screws instead. i'm still not full weight bearing and it's been over 7 weeks. i think my doc got a little concerned after i went for a 40 mile bicycle ride and figured he'd better scare me a little.

it's not unusual to be back in action in a few weeks from a collarbone. the femur should probably take longer.

hope you heal quickly. at least it's too freakin' hot to ride in vegas right now. (of course you could always drive up to ely and ride in perfect temps in the mountains).

I broke my femur on May 8th and was forced into bad surgery.2 months later I was still in alot of pain and had no range of motion.

I had Dr Mark do a "fix it" surgery where he replaced the rod with one the right length.

Im almost 5 weeks out and can walk without crutchs and am farther along than I was before.....I see myself being able to walk normanlly within the month.

So recovery really depends on how good the surgeon was....

Im now 3 weeks after the accident, and I can walk without any assistance, and don't have much pain at all. The road is the entire length of my femur, about 18" I would guess. I've been doing pretty good and have been able to bear full weight since day 1, and have very good range of motion back in the leg. My doctor did do a good thing by getting me up and moving on a walker the day after surgery, and I switched to a cane about a week and a half after the surgery.

Just throwing this out there... Most likely at LEAST 3 months. for me:
1st time I broke my tib/fib (had it plated) I wasnt good to go for 6 months
2nd time I broke my tib I had it rodded by Dr. Mark. At 3 months I got cleared to ride but I'd say its still only 85% and I have yet to go. (its been 95 degrees I've been out on the seadoo)
It takes time! Milsaps was out for 3 months too with his broken femur same with Robby Marshall.

My doctor told me 3 months for both the femur and collarbone, and its what I expected.
