Too Stupid to put oil in my own bike!

Really, Not with it at all!

Got my 426 over a month ago, and had Three pretty hard riding days last two weeks, so,, changing oil ought be prudent, seeing ESPECIALLY as how I dunno what previous owner habits were, oil in tank looked pretty clean though.

so drained it (tell ya later about case cracked by kickstand failure,, YEA kickstand failure:censored: ) repaired case temporarily, went to re-fil, and Oil don't go down!

ok newer bikes, old dude, y'all kin do the math!

I am certain I can find this info somewhere, but its actually kinda late, gotta get home eat shower and sleep and get a little grief for staying past ten working on the bikes, and stuff, at my shop! (check it out jhrex.com)

Hoping the easy answer awaits my return to this page tomorrow evening when I get back in here!

Taking off early friday on a trip with the guys, and ALL the bike's to Mt Shasta! Mc Cloud side camping in the National forest and trail riding all weekend!

oil in the bike will much improve the prospects of an enjoyable weekend!

What was your temporary repair? JB Weld, duct tape, glue? And the kickstand shouldn't be anywhere near your fill hole (which is by the steering stem) so I can't really begint o understand your problem with some clearer information. Glad to help is possible though.

ok, sorry I was not clear, Late night last night after a LONGGGG day.

I can't find where to fil the Oil on the Engine, I thought it would be through the Frame tank, but that overfills without the engine getting any (or much) oil.

As far as the temporary repair, it was due to the kick stand breaking and droping my bike straight over onto the concrete, causing the shifter to put a little crack in the case cover.

Temp repair was made with a CRC 2 part epoxy that resembles JB Weld,

The guy I bought the bike from is a well known motor guy in Lodi area and the oil looked clean on inspection so I thought it pretty safe. but now about 30 hours or so and the neccesary case repair I am changing it for the first time.

Downloading the Yamaha manual as I write this.

The TT thread actually didn't show or I missed it, where to fill the oil?

The easy way:

Completely emty bike

Use measured / graduated container

( like mon uses for recepies but plastic from auto part store, etc. )

Pour in 1.7 liters of your favorite blend.

Yes fill in from the frame.

Whoa! Don't wait that long to change your oil! You will get a different answer from every person but on my 426 I only go about 4 hours between oil changes using Rotella per Rekluse's recommendation.

On my '06 I use Mobile 1 Racing 4T and will go 6 hours between changes.

The '02 426 takes (I'm going off memory here) 1.4l of oil, not 1.7l...double check that with the manual.

Are you draining the oil from the bottom of the engine AND from the frame drain? That may be why you are not getting oil to go into the fill hole on the frame.

The oil is not filled at the engine on a 426. It's a dry sump lube system; the engine oil is in the frame. From there, it gets pumped into the engine, and through the lube system. When it drains back to the crankcases, it's picked up by a separate oil pump, and returned to the tank (frame) at about twice the rate at which it was delivered.

So, if you ran your bike within an hour of the time you drained the engine, and you drained only the engine, you may not have found more than 200cc of oil there, possibly less. The rest is still in the frame. If you leave the bike sit for a week or two, the entire contents of the frame tank will probably drain into the engine. On startup, it will begin transferring it back to the tank again.

The engine oil is also the transmission lube, by the way, which is one more reason to change it at least 3 times more often than you have been.

Seems like a lot of oil....my '03 450 is 1.1 Liters.

Yup, Got it, Now I'm replacing BOTH filters, draining it completely and will do so after every ride,

Most of my rides are from 16 to 20 hours so that is the longest I'll go without a change, but due to that period, I'll be investing in a VERY good oil.

oh yea the Damaged case cost $104, If you ever decide on a Kickstand, DO NOT GET A TRAIL TECH STAND! or at least DO NOT believe their claims that the stand can support the rider and bike, as they say Get on it and Kick away.

Two failures now due to this, and I am a pretty light person at 165.
