Okay i crashed on thursday and slammed my chest on the bars, knocking the wind out of me. Anyways i woke up early saturday morning with very painful chest pains... went to the doctor later that morning and he tells me they are muscle spasms and tells me to take 3200 mg of ibuprofen a day for 4-5 days and i should feel better in 1-2 days. Well its been 3 days now and my chest hasnt got even slightly better.... it keeps cramping up and feels like im being stabbed. I was planning on going back to the doctor around wednesday to see if he will give me some mild muscle relaxers if it doesnt get better. He's a "youth and teen pediatrician"... will he prescribe any muscle relaxers or what? Ive been to him 3 times for bike related accidents and hes always just told me to take a lot of ibuprofen. Any suggestions on how to make the spasms go away? Oh im 16 years old... yea i know it says im 19...

Go back to the doc and get a chest X-ray.

Yeah...you need an xray and/or CT scan. If you have a contained rupture of your aorta from the deceleration injury you are a ticking timb bomb. Is the pain superficial or does it feel like it is deep inside your chest?

I'll be a little more specific... its like right around the bottom of my breastbone. D o I still need a xray? Kinda hard to explain the pain... its a sharp pain... it used to comes and goe where its really intense but lately its been more countinuous but less intense. As far as inside my chest or not... im not sure.... it almost feels like heartburn:excuseme:

Okay and this might not be relaated at all but theres a verticle 2 inch long red blotch in the center of my chest right below where my breastbone ends

Oh and for xrays... do i need to get them if i KNOW i didnt break a rib? What would it be for other than breaks?

You're reporting trauma related chest pain to your doctor and no chest X-ray? Go see another doc.

The chest xray isnt just for broken ribs. I agree with cubera. A chest xray will also pick up a widened mediastinum, pulmonary contusion, hemo/pneumothorax, etc...fire your doctor and get another. While it sounds like you may have cracked your sterum you may have more serious injuries...especially since you are not getting better.

Oh and sorry; i forgot to say that it does not hurt at all to put pressure on my sternum... its not bruised at all. If anything is wrong other than muscle spasms its not a broken bone... im not bruised at all and it doesnt hurt to touch or pat. Oh and thanks a lot for hte help everyone. :worthy:
also it doesnt hurt to breath or move.... when im active my chest gets more painful but it doesnt hurt directly to when i move... like getting out of bed doesnt hurt

May be a cardiac contusion. Either way, a larger workup should have been done.

Well, is your health/life worth $2500? I think your mother would be smart to spend a few bucks on a Leatt brace and MX lessons for you. :)

Ditto that. And if you can't afford to be injured, then you shouldn't be riding.

You're 19, so you're an adult and can work or enlist.
