well, we were at a family reunion. i was real excited because it was going to be the first riding i would be getting to do in a few months, just hated it was only going to be one day.

it was just 2 bikes there, my drz400 and my cousin's ktm640 dual sport. of course everyone wanted to ride and it was planned for my gf to go with us. well, we decided to get about 20 minutes of riding alone, checking out the roads.

we had gone a few miles and decided to stop to check out some land he's going to build a house on. we looked and saw his view was being ruined by the next mountain over being clearcut.

HERE'S WHERE THE STORY REALLY STARTS
we got back on the bikes and i went in front. less than a minute later we're coming around a completely blind right hand turn on the dirt road. i have the bike leaning a little, starting to turn when i see a 18wheeler log truck coming my way. i drove right into the ditch and kept going, trying to avoid him. he hit the brakes and the trailer started to slide into the ditch. it was a vertical bank so i had nowhere to go. i got past the truck, but when the trailer came into the ditch, i hit the rear axle, there wasn't a tire, just a rim on the outside one i hit. i went over the front and just as soon as it happend i knew i was messed up. my cousin came up and asked how i was and i just told him my leg was trashed. the ambulance showed up 30 minutes or so later and took me an hour away to the hospital. after 3 hours with a broken and displaced femur, i finally got a little pain medication before i went into surgery.

doc said i had a bad puncture wound in my knee and it tore up a good bit of carlidge and took off a bit of the end of the femur. the rod in my femur took care of that break and should heal pretty good. going in tomorrow to see when i start rehab.

i hope everything gets worked out b/c the bike is TOTALED and the loggers will give me the value of it, as well as the hospital bills.

i DO plan to get back on a bike tho, hoping for a motard this time around!!!

i'll post some xrays soon

If offering to pay for your bike and injury's, than you better get a lawyer QUICKLY, and don't sign a thing.

They're clear cutting the forest out there, sue em' for everything you can get.

I guess that depends on whose land they were on. What makes you think the logging truck was there illegally? It sounds like maybe the rider was the one trespassing, in which case there would be no case.

He could be having trouble with the knee for life, Won't cost a thing to consult with a lawyer.

they weren't logging illegally and we were on a public road, so there was no trespassing.

This is one more reason why I think RACING is actually safer than trail riding.

At least I don't have to worry about on-coming traffic that weighs 30 tons.

that is SO true. i have been watchin races while i'm laid up on the couch. everyone that comes to visit while it's on asks wtf i'm watchin that for and how dangerous it is. i tell them that there's no log truck out there. maybe this will lead to more racing, i can only dream!!!
