Adjusting rear mono spring

Im a big guy. Got a 96 650L. never got a tool kit.i cant adjust the rear spring.Cant fit any of my spanner wrenches in there.. any suggestions?????

Try this, spray the threads and the bottom spring perch with wd40 and with the bike on a stand turn the spring with your hands ?

use some big long screwdrivers and a hammer, it will ding em up a bit but no harm ive done it before on other bikes.

I tried both of those,i could not turn it by hand,andi did end up hitting it with a screwdriver,but it was mashing it up pretty good

A long punch and hammer on the top nut has worked well for me with little to no damage good luck sometimes the factory tightened fasteners can be a bear.

make sure to have the bike on a stand!

Thanx guys,i think i got it to where i want it,even thiugh the nut is destroyed!!! Is there a wrench that comes with the bike to easily adjust it ???

I went to Harbor Freight and bought some long punches for $10 and a mini-sledge (3 or 5 lbs) for $5. I was able to push the black rubber portion of the airbox out of the way if needed when the temperature is warm. Hope you can do the same on the "L". WD-40 as suggested above is a must. Be careful not to overtighten when you are setting the lock ring (jam nut).

no wrench comes with the bike to do this. there might be a honda special tool but havent found it YET.

HOW big are you ? You may need a stiffer spring as I'll bet the stocker is for a guy of 170 - 185 or so.

huffa is right. i need a new spring too being 6'5" 230 lbs. but i found this spanner wrench. about 1/2 way down the page on this link.
