Here are the foods that I eat pretty much everyday - my goal is quick, easy and healthy :prof:

  • Multi-vitamin/mineral, Fish Oil pills
  • 100 oz water
  • 16 oz coffee
  • 8 oz Fat Free Yogurt
  • 8-16 oz skim or 1% milk
  • TBSP Olive Oil
  • 1/2 C egg substitute = approx 2.5 eggs
  • 1/2 C oatmeal (uncooked)
  • 12-16 almonds
  • 10 raisins
  • 1 C frozen berries
  • 8 oz Odwalla or Naked brands "superfood" - basically a 100 % fruit/veggie blend with a few other goodies thrown in (wheat and barley grass, etc.)
  • Chicken (boneless/skinless breast), turkey, lean red meat, or fish of some sort
  • 4 slices 100% whole wheat bread or whole wheat tortilla
  • 2 TBSP Natural Peanut Butter; 1.5 TBSP 100% fruit spread
  • Bar-Nut or Harvest PowerBar (1-2)
  • 1/2 C reduced fat cottage cheese
the remaining calories I fill in with whatever my day brings me...or in the form of some sort of pre/after-workout shake

Great thing about the above is nothing needs cooked...I mix the oatmeal, yogurt and frozen fruit, microwave for 30secs, and eat for breakfast everyday (it's actually tasty and makes your body burn more calories to digest the uncooked the oatmeal); I mix the egg substitute and olive oil with the Odwalla or Naked "superfood" and drink

I avoid processed foods (i.e. white bread or wheat bread with first ingredient described as "enriched", white rice, etc.)

I pretty much stopped buying anything that has High Fructose Corn Syrup in the ingredients and I try to avoid foods that don't have naturally occuring sugars in them (i.e. table sugar added). I don't count the sugars in 100% fruit juice, fruit, milk, etc since they occur naturally in the food

I'd be interested to hear what others are eating...

btw...the above is close to 2,000 calories w/ ~ 61% from Carbs, 26% from Prot and 13% from Fat. It's low on the Fat side, but I do eat out...also, I generally eat approx 2,500 - 2,750 calories a day. Finally, there's a lot of fiber in the above.

well, i eat a huge bowl of lucky charms in the morning (oats = good fiber), with extra milk, partly so i can make sure to have the calcium for my healing femur fracture, and partly because my cat Squeak loves leftover lucky charms milk (she only gets 2-3 tbsp).

then i have toast or a bagel with natural pnut butter when i get to work. usually some fruit in the morning too, and lately, a yoghurt, again for the calcium.

then i have lunch, usually leftovers, but sometimes a mcchicken and french fries (2.10 down the street).

then i have some candy in the afternoon.

then i go home and have chips and salsa, and a couple beers, then make dinner, usually rice or pasta type things with lots of fresh vegetables and spicy stuff.

then i have licorice and ice cream and some more beer.

sometimes i have a huge hamburger or similar for lunch. basically i just eat whatever i feel like.

I just can't be that controlled and freaked out about EVERYTHING I eat anymore. I've already done that and while it did improve my immune system, it sucked for eating out and having dinner @ friends houses.

I just focus now on avoiding certain foods but not freaked out. I try to make sure to be balanced about fruits/vegs, proteins and fats. AND NOT eating processed chemical laided "healthy" fat free foods. Have you SEEN the chemicals in that crap??? How can that possibly be ok for you?

Did you know brewers yeast is a digestive aid??

Oh, and I didn't see any fresh fruits and vegs in that mix. What's up with that?

frozen fruit is freshly frozen (and actually better than "fresh" since freezing it preserves the nutrients that are lost to sunlight, aging, etc.) The juice smoothies don't have added chemicals (part of the reason they expire quickly). I'm not sure what you're referring to from a fat free perspective from the foods I listed (yogurt, maybe milk being the only one)...there's nothing in fat free yogurt ingredients compared side-by-side to regular yogurt that would scare me away from the fat free.

These are the foods that I buy at the store and keep at home...I don't keep junk food at home; therefore, I can enjoy whatever I want at any given time away from home (I travel and date a lot) without any long-standing negative effects. My energy levels are great and my fiber intake is well above recommended - I can prove it

I'm 33, 6' 185 pounds with a 32.5 inch waste - I workout a lot, ride, snowboard, etc. This works for me. I can eat whatever I want, but choose not to (I've grown up eating healthy).

I'm more curious about other ways people are eating healthy in a convenient manner...this is the Health and Fitness forum...

I eat a lot of white rice. Japanese people are some of the healthiest people in the world and they eat a lot of white rice, so it cant be all that bad for you.
A lot of the time I will cook up a tube of ground turkey, mix in some teriyaki sauce and mix that with 2 cups of white rice. Its a quick, simple and most important of all CHEAP meal.
I also try to eat a can of tuna or other kind of fish at least once a day.
I also try to have at least 1 apple and 1 bananna a day, as well as drinking fruit juice (2 glasses a day).
I eat ramen noodles often too. Its a cheap, quick and easy meal.
I also try to drink 6 glasses of water a day.
Sometimes I will fire up the grill and cook up some chicken breast or some brats.
Im definetely not a model for the perfect diet, but Id say Im better than average.

I agree - I think that's better than average

i accidentally bought some fatfree yogurt. turns out it's flavored with 'splenda'. my body is a temple, and no artificial sweeteners are aloud.

i'm a little nervous about the heavy metal content of most fish these days. mercury, strontium, cadmium, bad jazz for the nervous system. no way would i eat it more than a couple times a week.

lol, there are days when i get 2,000 calories just from beer

i'm not sure how many calories i take in, but it's gotta be well over 3k just to keep my weight up. a little less right now while i'm healing and not too active.

I eat Fat Free, not sugar free yogurt...no need for artifical sweetners (actually, nothing I listed above has artificial sweetners added)

yep, I'm with you - generally between 2500 and 2750 total calories. Sometimes 2200 sometimes 3500 - but on average...

around here it seems that most of the fat free yogurts are also artificially sweetened. fat-free in big letters, artificial sweeten in little letters.

i was gonna send you the ones i bought accidentally, but it sounds like y ou wouldn't eat them either.

hmm, I'm gonna double check...I ate my last yogurt this morning, but when I buy more I'll see. I'll probably go to regular yogurt anyway since I'm not generally getting too much fat in my diet (and am actually adding fat w/ the olive oil)

Id like to think so. I definetely have my days where I eat junkfood and I drink soda, which isnt the best (but it is diet soda, so I get less calories) but all in all Id say Im decent.
I dont drink, I dont smoke and while I probably should try to eat more veggies, Ive never found veggies that I could stand to eat on a daily basis. My problem is that I work 60 hours a week, so if its not something that is quick and easy I tend to get lazy and not do it.

Sorry, are you a buddhist monk?

That diet (ref post #1) sounds like a religious routine of which you will get tired very very soon.

Like Velo says, you need to eat rather healthy food and enjoy some good non so healthy food once a day at least.

I don't know if he really drinks that many beers on a daily basis, I guess he's pulling our legs a bit. He may also be part of those lucky bastiges who never get fat (a minority in this country!).

Beer is carbs and alcohol. Alcohol is actually more energetic than carbs. If you don't exercise or do sports, you'll end up looking like a BFF (make it out) if you ingest a lot of it, unless you're my brother in law and he lives on beer and grilled meat only. He is always drunk and high (whether he is high on the meat more than the beer, I still don't know) but he is not fat.

Some people have a harder time with food and pack the pounds more easily than others, so if you are grossly overweight or have that type of issue, you may want to reduce the carbs and opt for more fiber, but never reduce the protein nor the fat, but instead opt for lean meat and good fat (like olive oil and avoid the trans fat).

Just quit the religious diet and eat good healthy stuff, reducing the not-so healthy stuff, but never stopping it completely, because you're never going to stick to that program.

It's not a "program" or religion or a diet. It's a very broad generalization for you to say I won't stick to "it" as you don't know me. I mix things up in what I eat but I thought people coming to this forum might like to see how easy it is to get healthy foods on a regular basis. And I would like to hear how they're doing it as well. It's funny that on the Health and Fitness forum how a list of healthy foods becomes subject to criticism. Not once did I say this is the best, or this is how YOU should eat (like some seem to do with their workout programs)...I was looking for a sharing of information.

I've never dieted in my life - It's a lifestyle...look at any of those foods and they're recommended almost on a daily basis. One more time...the above is only about 2,000 calories...I have about another 750 to 1,000 calories that I consume on a daily basis...I repeat...I fill those in with what my day brings me (travel, dates, drinks with friends, etc.)

So, when drinking water, consuming yogurt, eggs, oatmeal, fruits/veggies, whole wheat, lean meats/nuts taking a vitamin and eating a bar for convenience all becomes too burdensome, I'll seek other ways to get my daily nutrients. In the meantime, my LIFESTYLE of over 18 years suits me well and until my lack of being sick or injured changes or my 32.5" waste/four to six pack stomach and 300 pound bench press and energy levels go away, I'm a pretty happy guy.

I'm still open to hear how others are eating and what they've done to improve they're diets...

Lastly, how come when it comes to health and fitness, people are so quick to share how many reps/sets a person should be doing, but when it comes to nutrition the key advice is "eat healthy". A bit vague - almost like a person asking how to lift weights and a person responding by saying...use good form. Additionally, I would argue that eating healthy is at least equally important than working out (if not more); however, what's bothered me about nutritional roadmaps is all of the cooking involved. I live alone and don't to much cooking so I've simply over the years have found a way to consume healthy foods in an easy manner.

Thanks for the good ideas on breakfast Tagger. I fly out of the house w/out the most important meal of the day but that looks like I can take the 30 seconds and still get a decent breakfast.

No problem. Another one I use that you can put in a cup and take with you is oatmeal, a can of slimfast (Kroger generic) and 1/2 cup of egg beaters (kroger generic) - put all in a cup, mix and drink.

While the slimfast type of shakes aren't necessarily the best, they're much cheaper than say a MyoPlex and much easier than using/cleaning the blender when using a powder mix.

I find more smaller meals are better than bigger ones. Ill wake up, have a banana, and a yougurt. About two hours later (11?), ill have a bowl of frosted mini wheats or something with whole milk and a glass of orange juice. For lunch ill either have a roast beef sandwitch, cold cuts, or tuna. Mid afternoon ill have another banana usually lol. For dinner its usually some kind of meat or fish with either potatoes, rice, and/or vegtables. Lunch i drink propel/gatorade with. Dinner has milk. I usually drink 3-4 liters of water a day, plus the milk. Cardio 4-5 times a week, same goes for lifting. Core at least 3 times. Im not trying to lose weight, maybe gain it, but just build muscle and lose fat. I hardly ever drink soda. I will snack on ocasssion, but not too much that it gets out of hand.
