New rear tire for 07 wr450

Anyone with a 450 had any luck with tire lasting more than 300 miles? I have about 270 miles on my bike and my tire is one ride away from the trash.? I ride mostly sugar sand and dirt/mud. Any brand over another? Harder composite? Should I replace the front as well it looks pretty good still? Please advise.?

Maxxis, Dunlop, Michelin arew all great tires. Now you decide:confused:

Alot of the people who ride the areas around here have had pretty good luck with a "Sakura - Dirt Shark" rear tire. They are cheap with big lugs and they wear like iron. As long as the great front tire of your choice sticks then the back will follow. I tried the front tire as well but it was too scary for me. My Dunlop has about 500 KM's on it now and it is a ride or 2 away from the scrap pile. WR Dave.

Try the Bridgestone M22 if you want life as its hard as hell and lasts +-350-400 miles of weekend riding but if you are racing anything will be finished after 120 miles. I dont think it will be the choice for mud and soft terrain as you say you ride. You should then go for an intermidiate compound.

I just bougth a wr450f and want to prepare myself and the machine for a Rally/Raid with mixed terrain of all kinds. I'm not familiar with the machine and the manual only mentions 80/100-21 and 110/100-18.

I've been running Sakuras front and rear for a while now, they are cheap and the traction is good, yes there are better front tires but not for the price and not ones that wear as long...

I run Dunlop 756's front & rear and I got about 150 miles out of my rear (not very good) front still holding up good.

I switched to the Maxis IT and so far it's out lasted the 756 by a long shot.

I smoked my original Dunlops by 300 miles. The terrain around here does have super rocky areas though. I put Maxxis Desert IT's on mine and you cant go wrong. They have 300+ on them and still look great. ........................ bahhh ?

I just put a Teraflex 150 rear, and a Pirelli Scorpion 90/90-21 front on my 06 WR450. Fits great.

If you REALLY want long tyre life…

A rear tyre well suited to our bikes is the Mitas CO-2 ‘Stone King’ (formerly this was Barum the Chech company).

I have a WR 426 and just changed my rear, and it had covered 4,380 miles (7000kms) !!! (which is nuts.. )

My previous Mitas C0-2 Rear lasted 2000 miles.

Before using this tyre I was getting ~ 600miles (~1000kms) from an assortment of brands and re-treads. On rock, a tyre would be destroyed in a day.. and I’d be forced to back off to preserve the tyre on multi-day rides… unacceptable!

So I have found the Mitas CO-2 to be a great solution, you can spin the wheel up on rocks endlessly and it takes it. .. its endurance is way ahead of any other dirtbike tyre that I have experienced.

So what’s the traction like?

Surprisingly I have found it to be fine for all terrains,, including mud. The CO-2 has an aggressive compound and well-tolerates low tyre pressures… I have certainly used rears with inferior grip.

I use a Michellin s12 on the front…

So what is occurring here???.. in the 1980’s I wouldn’t touch a Barum tyre… well it appears that their quality is improving and have seriously bridged the gap with other brands.

Apparently they are now the largest tyre manufacturer in Europe…. So I guess that have placed an appropriate R&D budget into their dirtbike tyres..

My suggestion: track-down and try a Mitas CO-2 on the rear.. with a quality front tyre…. Change off the Mitas tyre if you are racing, Otherwise use it as the means of getting your WR’s power to the ground without pointless and expensive rear tyre usage,
