more xr600?

Recommended Posts

The 68S will work wonders.

One thing that I think you need to do is check the float level. From what I know it seems like you are using really big main jets. So big that if I tried them in my XR600 it would not run well at all. I would have no top end at all if I ran a 175. Perhaps the fuel level is low in you carb. The really big jets would then compensate for the low fuel level.

Just guessing but I would expect a 158, 160, or 162 would be best.

I know it sounds simple.. but it has happened to me. Are you sure the choke is in the "off" position? The jetting you have sounds like it should have worked fine-unless something was plugged up inside the carb. I would clean it, then go back to the jetting that it had when you got it. Make sure choke lever is DOWN or in OFF position. Please post back with your results.

i just fixed this issue on my friends XR400 so it does happen ? he couldn't understand why the bike was weak, turned out he never took his choke off.

Since we're all sorting out 600 jetting, I guess I'll ask a semi-related question.

Is the fact that I can easily start my bike in without the choke a sign that the low speed jetting is too rich?

Yes,I read it in a carb troubleshooting book years ago. The only reason the choke is there help draw gas out of the carb and bigger jets are easier to draw thru so they kind of negate the choke.

My bike starts without the choke also.I run the stock Low speed jet or PJ.So how the heck do we know when we have the bike jetted to just about its best?My plug looks good the bikes runs and idles great.

Sometimes you have to adopt a "if it aint broke don't fix it" attitude. Sounds to me like you got your XR sorted pretty well. Like you say the plug looks good and it runs great I'd leave it alone and wheelie on down the road.

Thanks for giving me a head bump on the other thread you save me alot of money on that deal.

Would like to thank you for the feed back, still have not had a chance to put carb back in, i'm going to soak it over night again. I will try a 158 main, see how it runs. than maybe go back to the 165.I might be back to ask about the right way in fine tuning /jetting

cleaned the carb and put the 158 main jet in run's pretty good. The carb needed a good cleaning. should i put back in the 165 main back in. More mods you do the bigger the jetting should be? Going out to 29 palms tonight would like to know before i go...

ya. i did a test on mine. had a 52 pilot 1 1/2 turns out. one twist of the throttle it starts and runs(fcr 41 pump.). put in a 50 pilot, same turns, wouldnt start on 1 pump.

Took me awhile but Im now running a 68PJ along with a 168MJ the bike runs great but cuts out up top in the gears.Maybe to much fuel now up high.Should I try to go with a smaller MJ now since I added the bigger PJ.Thanks

Try a 160. I run between 152 and 160 depending on altitude. Every bike is a little different. Get some jets are have at it.

Just got done running a 162 Jet and it no longer cuts out up top.Feels good everwhere it has a stumble sometimes at low speed if you just hammer the throttle. But I can live with that.

Im kind of wondering if my 600 has the power it should.Im very happy with it and it pulls VERY well.

Guys talk about this or that bike wants to stand up even in 3RD gear.Do you mean no matter what you do it wants to come up in first three gears.Ive been on some fast quads Raptor700FI and was told ,be easy it wants to come up first three gears.I gave it a try and it was no trouble at all to keep it down while giving it all it had.

My Bike in the woods you do have to watch it where you hammer it.I guess the uneven terrain and such in the woods does that. Thanks for reading this.
