KTM 300 - two ignition maps?

Recommended Posts

Couldn't find any info using search.

I read in some mag a few months ago that from the factory the 300 has two available ignition maps.

Is this correct?

If so how do you switch between them?

Can you do it on the fly?

Thanks!

there's a little wire under the tank(i think it gray)connected it's on full power

there is a switch that can be bought at extra cost.

Found the article in a Nov 06 issue of Dirt Bike ( I just can't throw these away...)

Page 92.

Re the 07 300 XC-W......"The ignition has a remapped curve for broader power and you have the ability to alter the mapping if you purchase the hardware from your KTM dealer."

Is this just a remap or is this a switch on the fly system like the Vortex system?

I can't find info in the hardparts cat.

Pg 44 of the owners manual provided the info.

...the CDI comes with two built in maps. Performance and soft. From the factory its set to Performance.

Unplugging the wire under the tank gets the soft curve.

There is also a KTM hardpart bar mount switch available to switch on the fly.

The 300 XC already gets great traction. I'd expect the soft curve to get even better. Like the 4-st Vortex ignition traction map.

Of course I'll need to try this...

just another way KTM is keeping the 2 stroke alive and well. I wouldn't own another 2t just because these bikes are SO adjustable. Went with the soft mapping and green spring on my SX and it is as smooth and lugs as well as my 300 did.? With the 'on-the-fly' switch, you could adjust the power on a HS track with varying conditions with the flick of a switch. Very kewl...

My GasGas has this as well and comes stock with a bar mounted switch, which works fine. Mounts on the right side, eaisly accessable with your right thumb. GG and KTM both use Koukusan CDIs, so it will work fine.

post may be a litttle late but i used the wr light switch only cost $20 and works / looks great

theres not a massive power difference or i should say there is not power gain just different delivery, the power band comes on a little harder it just seems to rev a little quicker.

still cool to use!!!
