Dunlop D739 and D739 A/T difference?

I've decided on going with either the stock Dunlop D739 or D739 A/T rear and switching to D756 front tire (looking for more sticky up front, XR650R). Terrain here (PA, WV, OH) is all over the place, hardpack/rocky, rutted, rooty, slick clay (and rain don't stop me). 100 percent off-road.

I can't really tell the difference between the D739 and D739 A/T tire. Is the A/T essentially the same tire with more puncture resistance? Dunlop website wasn't too clear. I see some people here running it. Any reason to pick one over the other?

Also going with Bridgestone ultra heavy duty tubes.

Correct, the AT has a heavier carcass, stiffer sidewall.
Even if it goes flat you will likely be able to ride out (slower).
If you do not like changing regular moto tires the AT will really piss you off.

Yup, a bitch to mount, but worth it.

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. My only concern is if I have to change it on an outing (or on the trail).

Not to worry, pulling off one side of the bead to replace a tube is not a problem. (you want to have 3 irons though)

For me the hardest part is getting the first side of bead mounted when putting on a new tire.

OK then, I'll deal with the initial struggle.

Thanks again.

The A/T is the only one we use in Baja.
Solid,Solid,Solid.
Agree with Devil- broken knuckles and f-bombs when mounting...
