Trailtech Vapor/speedo drive

My 02 WR426 (UK) has bust its speedo drive. Seems a little expensive to replace so thinking of buying the Trailtech Vapor. Dont know that much about it, so could someone kindly tell me; a) Do I need the original speedo drive in working order to power the Vapor? ? How does the Vapor measure the rpm? Cheers, Andy

I believe the Speed is detected by a electrical pickup placed in one of the front rotor bolt holes (won't need the stock speedo drive) and the rpm's are detected by a wire that is wrapped around the spark plug wire. Hope this helps...

Right On!! You can either replace the stock drive with a wheel spacer or remove the cable and cap it off. I have a Vapor on my 02WR426 and all I have had to do to it is replace the battery. Fits nicely behind the headlight shroud using the cheasy looking handlebar mount that comes with it but I have not had any issues with this mount. It has worked great for the past 1.5 years. I got one of the first ones off the line, lucky me I guess. You can't go wrong with the Vapor.

I too busted my odometer drive on an 02. By looking at it, it is the wheel seal, so if your going to leave it off, you'll need to replace it with a spacer. I'm looking for one right now myself.

As a side note, I bought a gps, and mounted it on the bars. I don't really know what all the vapor provides, but the gps gives you all the data you could ever want. Speed, avg speed, stopped time, running time, etc....

You will be happy with the Vapor, it will give you coolant Temperature, Engine RPM, and lots others...... I put a spacer in mine, if you do this, don't forget to transfer over your seal from the speedo adapter to the new spacer.

Now I want a Vapor... Haven't looked into them, but didn't realize they did all that. Sounds like the perfect additon to a trail machine

One note on the GPS Speedo and ODO, it is only accurate on flat ground. The GPS has no idea what type of terrain you are traversing.

I called up the Yamaha dealer (UK) and asked for a replacement speedo drive. £60 they wanted. Thats $120 with our current exchange rate! Its £70 over here for a Vapor so I'll be getting one of them instead. Oh how I love rip off Britain...

Vapor on my 426 is better than I expected. Thats if I have the time to look at it! I'm usually concentrating on staying upright :-)

Has anyone recorded all the normal operating paremeters on a 02 wr426??

I've found Temp normaly around 120 - 130 F but heads up to 170f when things are tough.

Redline and optimum shift???? around 6 to 7 g for shift I'm guessing??

Any specs and ideas appreciated.
