07 Wr450 throttle stop length

Recommended Posts

I must be missing it, but i ve searched and searched this forum and can't find the correct length to cut my WR450 throttle stop screw too....I m picking up the Wr on sat. and have ordered the TT AIS kit and JD jet kit which doesnt include the throttle stop screw, but i cant find anything on this forum that tells me the correct length to cut the present screw....I need the overall length of the cut screw if possible....thanks, Larry

I cut mine off at where the threads meet the straight unthreaded portion.

This makes it shorter than needed and the linkage hard stops against the top cover above the slide. There are myths that you can get stuck wide open, but if you look at how the linkage works its impossible to stick wide open unless the top cap comes off. I also did this to my 05 WR250 and last time I looked at the bottom of the slide cover it has some shiney marks where the linkage has hit, but not real wear.

If you have to cut it exact, just back it out till your slide is all the way up and see how far it is out and cut that much off.

If you've adjusted your needle enough to the rich side, i.e. more grooves, it can pop out of the needle jet and stick open. I just simulated it on a buddies '06 that I just set up 4 days ago. Rookies ?...SC

I'm sorry but I have to say it. Cutting down your WR screw is just plain mickey mouse. There, I feel better. As well, you have a buttload of work to do installing all the new goodies. Don't waste your efforts on a shortcut. I know WV doesn't have a Yamaha dealer on every streetcorner like we do here in AZ, but be patient and have them get the right part so you only have to do it once. You'll be glad you did.

Fight-On!

Im going to be pulling the carb anyway to install the Jd jet kit, doing the TT ais mod....Plus I ve been working on bikes for about 30yrs, and also a dentist, so i m supposed to be good with my hands:lol: .....I really dont see any problem with this, its just a shorter screw, thats the only difference...

you would'nt use JB-Weld in a filling..............or maybe? jk. I just happen to be one to use the right part every time if at all humanly possible. I am extremely anal about that stuff. If I were stuck, I'd make it work 'till I could get the right part. But thats my problem, not yours. I only suggest that as a way to go that will bring more consistant success. I'm sure it will work fine. Cheers

just get the AIS kit and be dun-wit-it. I cut mine when I was a rookie, hit the throttle a little hard on the driveway just to see if it sticks and it did!. ? those little japnese guys kno-wut-they-doin. sometimes i wish i had those little hands for working on my WR. it's in the breed......

Love my 05 WR and looking to get the 07 soon for a spare...... you know, living in So Cal, my buddies YZ sits because of the red sticker issue. So I need to buy another WR just so we could ride all year round.?

also a dentist

Dentist in Gilbert, WV? Is your office there?

Just curious, I'm from Lenore originally. I noticed the same name (ducatiwv) on the R1-Forum as well. Thought I would say hello.

I'll be visiting next week. Either on the R1 or I'll bring the YZ. Not sure which yet.

QUESTION.....

So I ordered the YZ screw (right side) and when i pulled out my stock screw (left side) i noticed how much short is was than the YZ screw. I measured both and neither are coming up as they should. My stock one almost looks like it's been ground down, do they wear down when in the carb? Any ideas??? I guess i can just ground down the new on i got a C hair. Just wondering whats up with the stock one.

EDIT: I see i ordered the wrong part # 5NL-14591-00 vs. 5JG-14592-00
