We are planning a trip to the Frances Marion National forrest on the 6th, 7th, 8th of Oct. The Wambaw Cycle trail head is about 40 miles north of Charleston SC. and it is an awsome place to carve some trees(unless your like me and they "jump" in front of you). We (5-15 of us)will be camping(primitive) at the trail head, but there are hotels about 20 miles away in Mount Pleasant. These trails are the same ones SETRA runs the "Swamp Fox" enduro on every year in January. This post is to guage the intrest of the east coast riders who cant make it to Moab for whatever reason.

This is our(riders in the rocky mount NC area) annual "camping" trip we have been doing for about 5 years, but everyone is invited and I hope you all can come(THE TRAILS ARE WORTH THE TRIP!!!!).

Hey... Mr GNCCYZ400... I'm assuming you ride GNCC's....... How do you find the YZ400 steering geometry and turning ability to be for typical GNCC race?.... Is it a little hard to turn for those courses? Or are they open enough for a YZ to be comfortable on?

The steering geometry is a little "long" for the really tight switch-backs, but overall it's too bad. The course's in the gncc series are cut a little wide to make room for passing. Macon Ga.(Paradise Park) is the only place I have problems with the course being too "tight". ? At the local races(vchsa,nchsa) the trails get alot tighter and the steering can become a problem on some of the slower sections. I'm waiting for the yz250f to hit the floor so I can race one next year, It's going to be SWEET in the woods. This isn's alot of info but I hope it helps.

I would like to go and possibly others from PA, but I have school Fridays till 3. Would you be returning to the same place each night? If so would it be possible for us to meet you there early Saturday morning then ride Saturday and Sunday?

We will be staying at the trail head the whole weekend. The only time we won't be there is when were in the woods, or in Charleston (finding parts for Neal). The trail head is easily found, even in the dark. There are only four turns from I-95(although it's about 65 miles). E-mail me and I will send you directions with my mobil# incase you have problems. We will be leaving Rocky Mount NC at 6:00Pm on Thursday the 6th and should be there at 11:15Pm. We will be riding by 7:30 Friday morning. Hope you decide to come, it's going to be a blast!!! ?

Sorry you can't come but there will be other rides and races. I'm planning to run the whole GNCC series next year, mabey we'll race together in the north.

Jeff....thats too far for me (MI).... but I'm sure the trails are worth it... I am going to be at Millfield in a couple of weeks though (GNCC)... mostly to try to get a look at Shane Watts in action.

Sounds like a good time. I proposed this some time ago and was trying to get everyones opinion, but the SETRA enduro series started and soon the harescrambles will start so the idea fell behind. At this point I am going to say that I will be there. I have informed some of the other riders about the post and hope they too will be able to make it. We have had a few good crowds ride together at Houston Valley a few times, but just for day rides. It might be a good idea to post directions for everyone interested.

Directions to the Wamba Cycle Trail Head: ?

From I-95 take hwy 26 east to Charleston (about 50 miles), follow 526 east to Mt. Pleasant, look for hwy 17 signs, take hwy 17 north about 25-30 miles (follow the Hurricane evacuation route), turn left on to Steed Creek rd.(remember the hurricane signs) go about 6 miles(give or take) to Halfway Creek rd. turn right, the trail head is about 6-9 miles on the left. The trail head is marked.

Keep in mind that the milage I have listed is from "memory" and may not be 100% accurate.

The trail is pretty easy to find, the only thing you need to look out for is the exit off hwy 526 into Mt. Pleasant, it "sneeks" up on you.

I'll have trail maps for all who come, It's easy to get turned around on the trail.

To ride in this forest does your bike need anything special? Like SA. I am going possibly a friend with a 2stroke if thats allowed. If not Ill be there by myself.
