Well, take the other C-clip and see if it is magnetic. The take a telescopic magnet and stick it down the tower. Should snag it. Otherwise you might have to pull off the ignition cover.

It is magnetic. Get a flexible magnet and you should be able to get it. Don't rotate the crank shaft as it will probably trap it in the cam chain/gear.
If you don't get it that way, remove the flywheel and stator and it will be right there where you can reach in and get it....a little time with the magnet from the top should do the trick.

I did that when it slipped out on me when I was taking the cam cover off. You have to be careful with those things! I used a telescopic magnet and it took 2 1/2 minutes. It may be kind of tricky because the cam chain is magnetic too but it usually sits in a little puddle of oil right there. Get a flashlight (I use surefire), and you can see the cam shaft at the bottom and mine sat right underneath it. If you don't have a telescopic magnet go get one at sears or somewhere for like 5 bucks. good luck!
