Today was a day of friends and bikes over at Carnegie OHV, in Nor-Cal.. We had a blast riding with two most excellent friends we had not seen in a while. Carnegie was truly a dust-bowl today, but not too crowded and the weather was great. We hit a couple of easy trails and spent a lot of time on the rocky, gravelly, and bumpy "flats". It's a tough park and even the easy stuff is slippery and steep. The "flats" (so named because they a washout at the base of the hills, NOT because they are particularly flat.) are a great place to work on throttle control, body position, and to develop the muscle groups needed to ride. It's an experience for sure. As I was riding with a guy that is a very good (and patient) rider. I took this trip as the chance to begin to learn how to "float" the front end over bumps and down sharp drop-offs. I'm still learning fine throttle control but I love the feeling when you get it right. Along those lines, I did my first real jump today, it was only an 20 or so inch drop off, but I gassed it and the DRZ came down wheels flat.. (floated the front) it was awesome. (in a small jump sorta way.).

My wife had a great time, and getting a chance to ride with a fellow female rider with a little be more experience was super sweet. She is constantly getting more comfortable on the CRF230.

We both get better every time we go out. Hope you all had a great weekend.

I'm lucky to be 40 minutes away, that's my main riding area. This time of the year is definately not the most ideal, but I'll ride anytime. I was just out there on Tuesday and it was real dusty.

Glad you had fun

Do it! I see your in Nebraska, so I'm not sure how often you will be able to make it, but I'm not leaving Kali any time soon, so maybe we can catch a ride. I can ride almost anytime as long as I make arrangements ahead. :ride:

Well,
Thats an error in my Profile (one I'll fix right now). I'm a local Nor Cal guy, and I live in Livermore. Carnegie is 20 minutes away.

I will for sure post up before I go next time, we'd love to meet more local riders..

Man, I haven't ridden Carnegie in over 20 years. Sounds like the same 'ol dust bowl, though. I never really liked it there but even a day of riding at a crappy park is better then just about anything else. :busted:

Congrats on your progress and riding with your wife...that's awesome

I recently got my wife a quad. She was determined to "never like" riding but I think she finally realized that the kids are really getting into it so she gave it another shot. We went on our first family ride last weekend and it was a pretty incredible feeling to look back and see my 2 kids and wife behind me!

Keep up the enthusiasm and posting of your progress:ride:

I know what you mean, riding with my wife (as opposed to all the times I left her at home when I rode street) is awesome. Dirt riding is such a great family event, and getting out there with multiple families rules.
