Today was a day of friends and bikes over at Carnegie OHV, in Nor-Cal.. We had a blast riding with two most excellent friends we had not seen in a while. Carnegie was truly a dust-bowl today, but not too crowded and the weather was great. We hit a couple of easy trails and spent a lot of time on the rocky, gravelly, and bumpy "flats". It's a tough park and even the easy stuff is slippery and steep. The "flats" (so named because they a washout at the base of the hills, NOT because they are particularly flat.) are a great place to work on throttle control, body position, and to develop the muscle groups needed to ride. It's an experience for sure. As I was riding with a guy that is a very good (and patient) rider. I took this trip as the chance to begin to learn how to "float" the front end over bumps and down sharp drop-offs. I'm still learning fine throttle control but I love the feeling when you get it right. Along those lines, I did my first real jump today, it was only an 20 or so inch drop off, but I gassed it and the DRZ came down wheels flat.. (floated the front) it was awesome. (in a small jump sorta way.).
My wife had a great time, and getting a chance to ride with a fellow female rider with a little be more experience was super sweet. She is constantly getting more comfortable on the CRF230.
We both get better every time we go out. Hope you all had a great weekend.
