Cheap ($) Tanks

Recommended Posts

Wow, that's a great deal! Does anyone know if this tank bolts to the frame on both sides like the stock tank or just on one side like the IMS tank? I'm putting my bike back to dual sport (the lights arived today!) and maybe I'll sell the YZ426 tank I've got on there now and get one of these bigger ones...?

boxsterboy--

Sorry, I don't want to sell my seat, I'll still need it. However, I'm seriously thinking about getting this bigger tank in which case I could sell you my YZF tank... I bought it this past summer and I can't remember how much I paid, about $219 I think. I'd sell it for whatever it would cost me to get this Acerbis tank which looks like $96 plus shipping and tax.

Again, does anyone have experience with this Acerbis tank? I used to have an IMS which had a right side petcock and only mounted to the frame on one side. Is this tank like that too or not? Anyone know?

I bought one of these last year for my 2000 WR. I also bought a YZ style complete seat. Big improvement in handling as it allowed me to move further forward on the bike for turns. Used the same bolts as the WR tank. No problems as of yet. One issue...Make sure you order it WITH CAP!!!!! ( THE $105.00 OPTION) AS THESE CAPS ARE SPECIALLY FITTED WITH A BILLIT ALUMINUM INSERT ON THE TOP OF THE TANK!!!! :D?

Good luck!

The tank has dual petcocks. It comes with the hardware and extra fuel line with a 'Y' connector. I routed the the right side line behind my carb and forward on the left side to the 'Y' connector. The system works fine. The petcocks are designed for easy access and the levers face outward. ?

Herky,

Did you put the Acerbis model for '98 & '99 YZ/WRs on your '00? They have a different PN for '00 and newer, which is what I bought for my YZ.

I'm thinking the only difference between '99 and '00 is different shrouds, so perhaps you would need '99 shrouds to use this tank on your '00.

Anyway if anybody knows what the difference is I'd like to know, a hundred bucks for a friend of mine with a WR would be hard for him to pass up (and then I could get my stock YZ tank back from him ? ).

I have the '98/'99. The only issue I found was that on the left side, the tank came down fairly low which interfered with pulling out the hotstart button. I could still use the hotstart but it was tight. I'm thinking about the Dubach hotstart as a replacement anyway. I also bought the shrouds with the tank. I put new graphics on and wanted to start with clean shrouds. From what I remember, the '00 tank wasn't part of the clearance sale. You can do a search for Acerbis Tank on this site and you'll see more postings for this item.

Later,

So it should fit a '01 WR 426 then right?

Why does Acerbis have two different parts then??

I was told by Acerbis, that the difference is because of the hotstart location. Thats why they are different part numbers. The dicounted tanks will not fit the 00' up bikes.

I did not think about, with using the Dr.D hot start??? I will check and get back to you, as I am also interested in the answer.

Will post back, ~Hitman~

As I stated above, I put this on my 2000 WR with slight interference with the hot start button. the FCR 2 carb is the issue. I can still use the standard hotstart but it's close/tight fit. All the hardware lined up. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE '98/'99 TANK WILL FIT AN '00. IT'S ON MY BIKE NOW AS I WRITE THIS!

The tank will fit... but when I put the ACERBIS tank on my old 98, the shrouds were way to tight. And slighlty wider.

I made up some spacers about .500" thick, .750 dia. to fit in the recess of the tank, for the top shroud bolt. (and longer bolts)

Its a tight fit, but .. it works.

A very nice side effect is a lot of fuel (weight) is carried lower ? .... but its harder for the last 1/2 gal. to be used. Oh well

good luck

What they told me before is, the 00'wr's have hot starts in two different locations. Some have a hot start button more at the carb like most which they say the discounted tanks won't fit. And some 00'wr's have the hot start back by the frame more or air box, which then they say the discounted tanks will work.

I am going to call them tomorrow and ask about if you can use a Dr.D hot start with the discounted tanks and be able to use them on the 00'yz's this way or not.

I will check back after I see tomorrow. ? ~Hitman~

I just called Acerbis and they said that the discounted tanks will fit the 00' up. Just is hard to get to the hot start button.

They said they were not sure about using the Dr.D hot start with the tank. I guess if the hot start cable does not stick out farther than what the hot start button does, it will be fine to use the Dr.D with the tank.

Does anyone know if the Dr.D cable sticks out farther than the stock button for the hot start???

If it don't, we are in bussiness with the discounted tanks.

They only have the Blue and White tanks left at the discount price, and have plenty of them they said.

Hope this helps everyone,~Hitman~

I have an Acerbis 3.4 gal tank-w/cap-YZ blue(fits 98-99 YZF)that I would like to trade for a stock YZF tank in excellent condition.I just purchased this tank on sale for $105.60 (mn-11161082).This is a very nice tank set-up,better than the CLark 3.3 gal tank I'm using now.The reason I would like to trade it is ,I just purchased a Big Gun Exhust system and the header pipe rises up very close to the bottom of the tank, too close for comfort! If anyone is interested, please send an e-mail to RKRYG2000@AOL.COM

Thanks, Bob
