650r electrical help

does the stock xr 650 r have any 12 vdc circuits on it or is it all ac voltage? i want to hook up a inline brake light switch and a "stock looking" tail/ brake light. any help?

Stock is AC. There is something called a Tympium (SP?) voltage regulator that converts the ac power to dc power. I have seen them on E-bay occaisionally and at Baja Designs.

You can also build a full-wave rectifier with 4 identical diodes that you can purchase from radioshack. Look it up on the internet, it is super easy to solder together. I'm not sure how well regulated the stock bike power is, but the full wave rectifier will probably work. Just make sure your solder joints don't break from vibration. You might pick up a small piece of circuit board to route the diode ends and wires.

Or you can just leave it AC power and wire in a brake circuit...

If you want to do it yourself then consider this setup. Gives you DC voltage needed to run a horn. No turn signals required in AZ. You do your own wiring and save big $$$$.

I rewound my stator and upgraded to a 100 W headlight. You could buy a 100W stator or run stock (40W).

No battery required if a load is provided by a capacitor. You must have a load.

My wiring is very simple. The headlight is either on or off @ 100W output only.
