loudest 02 xr650L exhaust

Recommended Posts

A brand new member here, so excuse me if I ask an already explained issue. I have a 2000 xr650L that is completely stock. I am getting a bit of backfiring when I decelerate. I plan to clean the carbs (to ensure proper gas flow) but if that doesn't work, I have to try a few new things. I have heard that the smog block-off kit cures that backfiring, but I want to know all that you guys will tell me about them. Also, how do you guys feel about K&N filters?
Hi tggray01,

if you are backfiring while decelerating and your engine is completely stock, you are running lean for some reason. Clean that carb and filter!!?

Rman...

i have a 02 xr650L engine in a 400ex frame and im looking for a aftermarket exhaust i want the loudest best sounding pipe out there and also if anyone has a clutch for this engine let me know how much i fried the clutch on it

Hey Mark-

I guess your asking for your bike to be loud...Have you tried riding it without the silencer...

WHat your really asking for (I think) is for the exhaust with most HP.

If not, you're a "mark"...If you don't know what that means, it's not a positive thing.

This isn't about waking the neighbors. It's not about Al Gore. It's about someone attracking attention to him (or her)self. Oh, now I figured out what 400ex is. I can't imagine what you're doing with a motorcycle engine on your QUAD...?

Now I see that this is a "Quad Thing"... And some folks still wonder why we all take different length buses to school.

Actually… Its attitudes like YOURS that is ruining our sport

?

Hey D4S-

I know that you have a positive attitude but KAS has a brilliant point about this gay. He wants loud because he's going for "asthetics over function". THis is always a dead giveaway for posers and wannabees...

You'd probably agree that the sport could do with fewer of these...

unless you own a shop or something.

Please, whatever you do, make sure not to wear a helmet. Those are so uncool.

Hey Mark Motox-Since you're not even 18 I'll give you a little break and chalk it up to your youthfulness. Nevertheless you are a poser and a Mark.?

If you were strickly on a two-wheeler, I would really have to tear into you.?

I will commend you for one thing only, just for good measure:?

It's notable that you've told us all that you don't give a crap what other people think...

...except you do give a crap how loud your FRIKE* sounds

These two things cancel each other out-But you're still a Mark for not caring more for HP than DB.:busted:

Also remember to split your time between PRIVATE TRACKS and english class.

(ie: don't quit your day job):bonk:

BIKE=Two Wheeler

TRIKE=Three Wheeler

FRIKE=Four Wheeler

How much increase should I receive from using a K&N filter and does it decrease the lifetime of the bike?

If you're running a K&N filter on an XR650, the performance is worse. THis is simply because the size of filter's opening versus the stock ones...The standard for BAJA racing is that most everyone, including the FACTORY HONDA PIT SERVICES, uses only the stock type filters on XR650's.

A K&N filter might reduce the lifetime of your bike, but only if you never clean it...? True with any fliter...

Hope that helps...Remember not to be like Mark MOTOX BOTOX---

That means: focus on performance, not cosmetics, asthetics or DISCO-style aftermarket parts:prof:

...and I guess the AMA setting sound levels on private tracks does not apply here either? How come if loud pipes on private tracks has no impact they have already set out noise level reductions over the coming years? Wake up, before all the riding areas are closed!

This thread has (obviously) struck a chord with me.

So to have these little icon things:applause:

I think this subject has two levels:

A. The regulation of noise (ie: noise restrictions)

B. Just plain Noise (ie: extra ? noise for MOTOX):busted:

RJB has a point that the AMA has lowered the boom. But he's hysterical:eek: to be even potentially affraid  of ALL the riding areas getting closed down.

Therefore, RJB only replied on part A of the subject.

And I wonder what he thinks about someone who simply wants to make more noise but doesn't seem to want it for the extra horsepower.

? I'm really sorry if I'm missing something important here:confused:

theres alway a cause and an effect

If you have the cause of "getting more out of your bike"

...then the effect is more noise

But if your cause is more noise...

...what the hell is the effect of that:confused:

Someday, you'll grow out of this silly "loud pipes are cool" phase and realize that you don't need an obnoxious pipe to make good performance.

I'm sure you have learned some already.

Hey, would you be interested in buying a power band ?

Um... yeah…

Hey Scottie, take a few deep breaths… now count to 10… just relax for a second.

Try to think of the old days

…you know

…when you were young, and you did dumb things just for fun (or just for a laugh…)

…some things may have made you faster (like putting stickers on your bike right?)

…some may have made you slower (like big loud pipes with no back pressure)

…they may have been “stupid”

…or they may not have been… but who cared?

What we have here is a common generational problem. An older gentleman such as yourself, totally convinced (i.e. brainwashed) that this young, dumb “mark” on a quad is going to completely ruin our sport with a loud pipe (like it has anything to do with trail/road closures). But I cant blame you, It’s what they (the eco-nazies) want you to believe. They like to point fingers…and they’ve done a pretty good job in converting you into a finger pointing "fun Nazi” hahaha j/k

But really though, the truth of the matter is that there is PLENTY of space for ALL - but all this (unfortunate) talk of the destruction of our sport by way of the youth and environmentally unaware (open pipes) has been clouded by the real issue.

MONEY AND LIES…

like, for starters... the deliberate use of your xr's green sticker fees and other taxes to CLOSE trails and open areas.

Believe it or not…but you’ve probably have done more to harm the sport than this guy that’s looking for loud pipes.

Every mile they close equates to cash… I’ve been there, working with the feds (first hand). And trust me, there is NO mention of loud pipes. ITS ALL ABOUT THE GREEN...money that is.

But I did enjoy reading your posts though…

they made me laugh, you know – the way you try to separate yourself from the “Frikes,” or the “Quad-thing” (whatever that is) by using insults and other attacks.

The first thing you have to realize (if you even give a rats ass about this sport), is that we’re all in this together…

the guys/gals closing trails and open areas see your 650 and this guy’s quad as ONE and the SAME!!!

the second thing you have to realize (but i'm sure you already do) is some of those guys on “dirt sofas” don’t take the small bus to the race…

In fact, they’d smack your ass all over the dez. (I know you’ve seen them- WFO- flying by in Baja…)

So try not to bunch everyone up in to one f’d-up little category (it’s not good for the sport…remember).

And remember…remember…..remember, if you’re going to talk shit about someone’s grammar/spelling

well...you know.

hope this helped ?

Yea it helped no worries, nice one, touche'

Perhaps I was a tad harsh with the kid and thanks for lettin me know 'bout my hyper-critically illegitimate attack on MotorHeads motorskills

Just for the record though...it was KAS who said MOTOX is ruining Frikes and Bikes alike; And RJB is worried that ALL the areas are doomed...I refuted both those points in my nerveous breakdowm back there...

TO set the record straight

I recycle sometimes but I kicked Al Gore's ass in the BAJA 500...Even though, you're right, I got smoked by a lot of great riders, including some really fast "Friders"

Sounds makes a difference.

Yes, the people that hate us will hate us even when we're quiet.

Here's what you need to think about.

Some folks don't hate us. Some are indifferent about OHV users. Then one day they have one bad experience with an excessively loud OHV, and all of a sudden they can't stand us, and want our riding areas shut down.

If you're naive enough to believe that loud bikes are fine on a track, I've got a bridge I'll sell you.

im all in favor on keping things a little more toward the quiet side. i have an fmf q2 on my 650L and its kinda pushing my limits as to what i consider acceptably loud but its no where near the volume of the pure race exhausts out there. my property connects directly to a powerline right of way so there are lots of bikes out there every day, most have reasonable exhausts but every once in a while some gee im gonna be this loud because i need that extra 1/4 hp to ride the trails idiot goes through and irritates even me:foul: . so id have to say yeah, noise level makes a difference. another thing to consider is the time of day some of us set out to ride, if your riding area is near a residential neighborhood maybe you shouldnt start your ride at 6am on a saturday there... just a thought.....
