How dependable are the 07 WR450.The saleman said they need alot of maintenance and was trying to sell a $1700 program

We wont know for a while Craig, their still new. Id tell that sailsman to F.O. if I were you.Maybe even find another dealer. You know they,re selling these bikes for less than 6k in certain parts of the country now.I bought mine for 5850 plus tax (6300)in Ohio. Also Yamaha has a 0 down,0 interest,0 payments for 6 months plan going on till August 31st.I figured why pay for it now,you know? That 1700 is nearly 30 % of the cost of the bike, thats a rip off to me. Good luck on what ever deal you go with. Bob

Personally I think the service plans on dirt bikes is silly. Pretty much riding the bike the way it's supposed to be ridden: in the dirt, at high rpm, crashing, etc... is not covered by the "warranty." It's ridiculous to get an extended warranty on a dirt bike for that reason. I worked as a salesman at a Yamaha dealer in CA a few years back and I never saw a dirt bike come back in for a repair that was covered by any extra warranty or service plan.

If the 07 is as reliable as it's predecessors then it will be minimum as far as dirt bikes go. Just change your oil & oil filter often & check your valve clearance & you'll have no problems.

Typical Wr Maintainence Program

1. Change The Oil And Filter After Every One Or Two Rides Depending On How Hard You Ride.

2. Clean Air Filter After Every Ride

3. Wash Bike After Every Ride

4. Lube Cables Once A Year

5. General Lubes Once A Year

6. Periodically Check Wheel Bearings

7. Etc......

8. Bring It By My Pad And I'll Do It For $1,500 A Year.

9. Kidding

Dude, The Wr Is So Easy To Maintain. Sometimes I Feel Bad For Not Breaking It Down For Inspections More Often, But The Wr Just Don't Need It.

They tried to sell me the same thing on my WR and my son's YZ.... I told them NO ONE wrenches on my bikes but me and they kept pushing ? It's just a way to bring extra $ just like buying a car and the fact is, it probably works well to the unsuspecting first time quad buyer:applause:
