How many run their bike with out them?

Just wondering how much they really help or if it's more of a gimmick ?

To me, it's seems like they would help but I think the bikes look much slimer and better with them off.

Guess there is no way to do a scientific test to see, is there?

I imagine in the cooler months they are not all that important?

I,ve always thought as long as the bike is moving at enough speed for them to force air onto the motor they must help some what.

Certainly agree, it's hard to know exactly how much "somewhat" is though.

I'm sure Honda knows!

With the stock jetting and stock tank and stock front fender, they are important. The huge fender plus the lean jetting adds up to a hot engine.

Ran some tests with and without the wings using a dipstick thermometer.

At moderate speeds (25-45) there was the largest difference.

Got my first freeway time since im "legal" now and on the way home yesterday in 90+ degrees i only saw 250 and that seems good compared to alot of others that have seen temps up close to 300 and i have the shrouds on with 300LB rider.

with no shrouds, richer jetting (fcr 41), 230 pound rider, xr400 front fender,80 pounds of camp gear, 75 mph(on hiway for 60 mile legs), 80-85 degrees f., i only saw 260 max on my dipstick. slower speeds i saw a max of 280.
