Cycra ProBends with Triple Clamp Brackets- How To

I noticed a week or two back that someone was discouraged from getting Cycras with triple clamp mounts for their WR because they would lose the top plastic brake line guide. I put this together to show how to avoid that issue.

Take this bracket off and gently bend the

small tab around to the other side.

Remove the guide nut with a dremel.

Trim the guide down to the depth of the existing

gap shown with a razor blade.

It will go like this. The bracket is not completely

symmetrical so the headlight will have to bend

down about a 1/4" to be bolted.

You place the headlight tab on the reverse side

and bolt as normal but the threads are outboard

instead of the head. Put a small nut on the

guide bolt to replace the one you removed

and you are done.

Finished Product. Is this brake line guide

necessary? Probably not. But hopefully

somebody as willing to waste their time

as me will benefit from this.

Thanks Marty. I didn't realize how tweaked my Bendthals were until I put the guards on. I guess it's time to upgrade.

I've got the same set up, and rigged mine a little bit differently.

(It's always fun to MAKE things work...)

Unfortunately, I am not as generous as blackcyprus!

I told the folks at Cycra that their set up was not a perfect fit for

the '07 WR450. They were appreciative of the feedback.

I have had good experiences with the Cycra's in the past, and I have no reason to believe this set will not perform as well.

Good idea, I had the same problem and just trimmed the cable guide and flipped it over. Works almost as well but your lookes better. I'll give it a try tonight.

First, thanks for the writeup. I bookmarked it when you first had it up, but only now got my bike to see how it works for me.

Well, your setup solves one problem (the cable guide), but not the second one, which you didnt have as it looks to me that your bike is an 06. on the 07s the bracket is smaller and the headlight bolt is located behind the handguard mounts (when you put them on). I did solve it all, and will take some pics and upload tomorow.

Just had a second look and the bracket holes location does look the same as the 07.

anyway, I solved it differently by leaving the bracket in place and having the guide (took a lower guide off of a 02 426) bolted from the inside.

BTW: I did have a major break line failure once when I rode without one of those guides.

I would NEVER buy anything else other than triple clamp mounted handguards.

They are 10x stronger than bar mounted ones and WON'T move!. I've had both types and test them out every ride!

Best thing is that they put the hand guard in the right position, they can't rotate or move on the bar.

The hand guards are are designed to protect the hands. Most of you would go home with broken knuckles if you ever needed them.

i have the triple mount and was thinking about going to a bar mount b/c i crashed once and the triple mount broke my pinch bolts out and bent my triple clamp so i was riding with just my lower triple clamp. i would rather have my handle bars bent than triple clamps. just my $.02.

anyone ever had to straighten out the triple clamp mount?

Yes, the tripleclamp mounts are great. The fact that I saved and transfered them from my old bike to the new WR says it all for me. It saved me lots of levers and helped finish races, where in the past with the handlebar mounts... never mind; to each his own (opinion).

Anyway, here is how I mounted it up.

grind some of the mount flesh (perhaps weaken its strength) and took a 02 426 lower break line guide (which is identical to the 07 lower guide) and placed it from the inside.

I doubt it loses much integrity, especially with the way you kept the trimmed area round to eliminate stress risers. Looks a whole lot better than mine too.

bent my cycra triple clamp mount, first ride with them on my 08WR450:rant: . The bike fell over in the parking lot. they bent bad enough that I couldn't engage the clutch. lucky I was right by the truck and my tools..

FYI. I had ground down my triple mount too... IMHO it would have bent anyway. the mount gets a cantilever load if the bike falls on its side..

I've bent and straightened two sets of Cycra triple clamp mounts. I then had to make a custom set to work with my CR high bars and BRP submount and I bent those, too. The last time, the handguards were pointed way down with no way to move them back up.

I switched to the "U" clamp because I'd rather not do any damage to my triple clamp, or worse, fork tubes. Plus, if they do rotate down, it's pretty easy to move them back.

yeah my bolt on the bar end clamp got bent too. it would have stripped if I had tried to put it back together. but I was right next to the truck, so I just removed it and tossed it in the truck. I rode around with one guard all day:ride:

I didn't expect this to come back from the dead. That sucks about the clamps bending. I haven't bent the triple mounts but my end bolts have pulled out of the bars a couple times. Luckily, the end bolts didn't bend so I could just stuff them back in and tighten them down (scared to strip the alum. anchors though).

I've had amazing luck with my triple clamp cycras. Not only have I not bent one of the hand guards (not from a lack of trying ), but I'm pretty sure they have saved me some bent bars...

I have an 08 with the triple clamp mounts. The brake line guide was in the way of the new mount, So I drilled and tapped the meaty part of the mount and bolted the brake line guide to the mount. This worked really well and put the guide to within about 1cm of where it was originally.

Good idea as long as it doesn't weaken the mount too much, let's see a pic.

OK, I finally took a pick of where I drilled and taped the cycra mount to remount the brakeline guide. This worked great for me.
