Quick Q -

My KTM is plated but does not have ORV tabs. Am I going to get hassled by the man or take my plate if I invest in ORV tabs? Does it change the designation on the title from Use Class 'CYC' if I buy OV tabs?

I remove my headlight and rear fender extension (w/plate) during the summer time, hence the question.

Thanks,

Matt

Matt, I've been told by people who have tried that a bike cannot be licensed with both. I remove my plate (along with the whole black enduro fender part) on private land and/or closed coarses so there's less weight flopping around back there, but I always make sure it's on there for the public domain. Given the way things are headed I wouldn't want to try my luck.

You can get WA ORV tags for a WA street plated MC. It may take a few tries to get someone who actaully knows the law that will do it. I have done it.

If you have a WA street license you do not need an ORV tags to ride WA trails...

In Oregon you need an ORV tag to ride public trails even if you have a street license. However, you can easily get an OR ORV tag for a WA street licensed MC.

Well, I wouldnt do it. It will just draw attention. And if push comes to shove and they ban dual registration (and yes, its been done many times) they may take the plate after a closer inspection reveals its an off road bike originally. I understand many like to contribute to the ORV fund by buying ORV tags (and its a very kind gesture) but in this case, I dont think it would be a good idea. You dont want to risk changing your G/CYC to a ORV. I will never dual register my plated WR450, and I dont feel guilty for not buying ORV tags for it as I buy ORV tags for all the others in my small fleet. I have a buddy with an 04 KTM 450EXC, its dual resistered with a plate. But in ther use class, it reads ORV, in the plate area, it shows his road plate numbers. If yours reads "G/CYC" in the use class, just leave it and enjoy it!

Yea it doesn't make sense that you would need some sort of ORV tag if you are street legal, I mean we are already paying too much as it is. The tabs for my bike are more than my 2002 Camry, and almost as much as my 1999 Dodge Ram 4X4,.....sheesh.

And I had tp pay a weight fee on my plated 04 WR450 (at a whopping 248 lbs), yet, none on my tandem axled 7000# GVWR enclosed cargo trailer??? Whats up with that?

I have my bike dual registered. but then again my DRZ-S model starts out being street legal. no worries here. even with my plate i have been asked if i have a ORV tag. I have it under the fender on the battery box. hard to see unless you get down and look for it. the DNR guy made a comment that it is suppost to be stuck to the frame I told him that the box is attached to the frame all he said was that i will need to put them on the frame on both sides of the bike easly seen. NO WAY will i do that. I don't mind stopping and showing my sticker to anyone that ask's to see it.

He is full of stuff, his eyes are brown. The law states it must be visable from either the front and back, or left and right.

I just sold a dual registered WR250 to a buddy. I suggested to him that he let the ORV tags lapse and only renew the street plate. We'll see if he gets the street plate transfered. I told him it was far from a sure thing.

BTW, our ORV tag fund has been so badly compromised by greenie theft, I no longer feel that it is a worthwhile place to spend my money. I use that cash to support NMA / WOHVA / BRC instead.
